Best authentic Mexican food on Oahu. Great homemade everything on menu but I’m partial to the chili rellenos.. charming little off beat location with a happy feel and excellent upbeat service. Love this place.

Came here after wife found us some Mexican food that we’ve both been craving. It’s small hole in the wall and don’t let that deter you. There is little parking in front. They’re very welcoming and bring waters right away along with chips and salsa....Salsa was good and chips thick and crunchy. Wife ha free taco with rice; homemade taco shell and ground beef was flavored. I had the combination; cheese enchilada with red sauce (tasted really good), crispy beef taco (love the homemade shell) and I upgrade to the pozole. That right there is fantastic; the broth is very flavorful like how my wife does hers (she's Pueblo from New Mexico) and this Pozole was spot on. highly recommend trying the PozoleMore

A first time visit to this restaurant. Parking is available in front of the restaurant. The service is professional and friendly. The chips and salsa - unfortunately the chips were on the almost stale side. The beef tamale had a nice sauce but the tamale...was over heated so the masa was puffy instead of firm. The sauce was almost very good. The chile rellenos looked very nice with a nice sauce (same as the tamale sauce); unfortunately the taste was missing. Both items are a work in progress. This is a nice place for Mexican food and well worth a visit. Prices are very reasonable.More

Probably not on the normal tourist path, this is closer to the university if you just want some basic Mexican food it’s more reasonably price than being in the tourist areas. The service was great the food is fine

4.5 stars really but we really enjoy Los Chaparros. Been here maybe 6 or 8 times in the past couple years. This is not gourmet Mexican, and I cannot speak to authenticity. What I can say is that the burritos and tacos are very good.... . . consistently good, which is a huge issue in Hawaii. Any restaurant here that I've been to 3 times or more with consistent results gets a +0.5 from me. I usually get one of the burritos, always generously filled and very flavorful. My wife usually gets tacos, same generous portions and quality fillings. When we go it's usually filled with families and college kids. The staff are friendly for the most part (once we had a lump of a person who was not so great, but he wasn't horrible). Sometimes you have to flag them down but we've never waited long for anything. Yes they say they charge for extra chips and salsa beyond one set they give when you sit. I honestly have no issue with this because the cost is nominal and it's more to deter wastefulness than anything. How many times have you gotten a second basket of chips and only eaten half of them and they have to throw away uneaten chips? How many times have you said "I shouldn't have eaten all those chips"? Yes parking is a challenge but this is a city, not the burbs. We will be back for more.More

My family is from Texas, and we love mexican food. We had high hopes for this place. The major problem is they don't have enough parking (the only have a total of 7 spaces, of which are very hard to get into). I can't believe...that's legal. In Texas you have to have a certain number of spots in order to conduct business (although I realize Honolulu is a lot smaller). We dropped off part of our party so they could go ahead and get a table while the rest of us tried to find parking. There was no street parking and we circled the blocks behind the restaturant looking for a place to park (keep in mind this is a Thursday for lunch). Finally after 20 mins and circling the block for 20 mins a space opened up about a block and a half from the restaurant. The service was not good at all. They had one guy waiting all the tables, while two other employees were just behind the counter doing nothing. They only give you a few chips and then charge you for chip refills. I've never seen a Mexican restaurant do this. We order soft drinks to go along with our water. I thought he would bring those out quickly, but I was wrong. He brought them out about 10-15 mins later when the food came out. That's one way to not have to refill your drinks. The food was just alright, nothing to write home about. Overall it was an experience I wouldn't want anyone else to have to deal with. I know it's a family-run business, but they need to work on their service.More

I would definitely call this just an average Mexican restaurant. Nothing special. First of all, the parking is terrible. My family and I had to park a block away because of the limited parking. The service was very slow. They only give you two baskets...of chips that aren't filled all the way. If you want more then they charge you for them. The food was average. Nothing special.More
