Whether you're local or a visitor, if you want to experience izakaya you need to dine at Kohnotori. The food is great; the atmosphere is casual and the prices won't break the bank. It is a must!!!

The Nabe here was so delicious, it made the cabbage taste so good. I like that they will bring more pork, vegetables and even more broth for your pot. The sake was delicious and we ordered a bunch of sides including the chicken wings, fried oysters, salad. This was an outstanding meal. We also ordered this bread dessert as pictured...I... More

Found out by accident! Was going to the restaurant that was there prior, which was definitely good too! Now it's Kohnotori! Am so happy! Still awesome food and service, and the honey toast... Oishiiiii!

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Hawaii. The food is great and the atmosphere is inviting and friendly. It is a small restaurant but exactly what you would expect from a traditional Yakitori/izakaya place. My friends and I go here often and every time we have a blast!

Five of us went for the first time last night and everyone was impressed with the food and service. By far the best yakitori I've had in the US and as good as in Japan. My only complaint would be is some of the food was very slow in coming, but well worth the wait. Worth a trip from Hilo... More

I was headed towards another restaurant when I happened upon Kohnotori. Boy, am I glad I decided to give it a try. Kohnotori is a very small restaurant, set way back off South King Street. The place was jammed, mostly local folks, but I lucked out and found a seat at the bar. I ordered an Ichiko Sochu (like Japanese... More

The first thing you noticed was the care and skill exercised by the chef while doing the grilling at the bar. Once the food is done, it is served immediately and it beats any pre-done yakitori by kilometers! I personally enjoyed the liver very much as well as the gizzard. We ordered twice! My son and I went back there... More

Small and casual like in Japan, this is a fun place if you like grilled foods. Easy ordering on a list that you fill out and they also have ramen. Try the quail eggs or chicken gizzards. My husband loved the tongue very tender.

My girlfriend had Kohnotori on her "to eat" list. First the place is tricky to find (behind the 7/11 from the street). It serves yakitori (skewered meat) with some exotic cuts: liver, heart, gizzards, chicken skin and the rest of the more vanilla cuts like pork, beef and chicken. The cook will prepare the skewers right in front of you... More

If you know what "yakitori" is, then you'd love this place. Yakitori is skewered meat cooked on a grill, and is very Japanese. The restaurant is an izakaya (Japanese for a restaurant where plenty of alcohol is served). Since the grill is right in the restaurant, it can get just a tad smoky, but this adds to the great atmosphere.... More
