As a many decade musician, l, while on vacation in Newport, really wanted to check out a blues band. I asked around while at the hotel, and pretty much met universal recommendations, Newport Blues Cafe! I called the venue and was advised the band, Sugar, played a wide array of music, including blues. So off I went! Arrived early, sat... More

Hi John, I'm not sure if maybe blues stood out to you and maybe you misheard me when describing the band. A lot of people do expect blues because we are the Newport BLUES Cafe. I can appreciate that but when when people call about Sugar I describe them as top 40, Motown, funk and disco. That to me says... More

We went to see Felix brown play on Tuesday night, it was FABULOUS!! We're going again to see them on Friday night. Newport blues cafe has the BEST BASS! I'm deaf and I went with one of my deaf friends he was telling me that Newport blues cafe has the best BASS in the state of Rhode Island so I... More

This is a fun spot, with a bar downstairs and tables downstairs and upstairs. We saw a great band there and the scene was very lively, with lots of dancing and nightlife. Depends on the band I am sure but well worth the $5 cover we paid on a Saturday night to hear a 6 piece band do wonderful rock... More

So glad we picked this place last night. No blues last night, but a great band we that had the whole place rockin. They played everything from 80 music to today's top pop. A comfortable setting with a big dance floor. Gray if you want to get up and shake it or just relax, sit, and watch the band. The... More

The Newport Blues Cafe is not known for its food -- it's known for its music scene, so keep that in mind if you plan to eat here. Food is not their specialty. The dining area is mainly in the back, especially if there is a band playing because they move the tables out of the bar area so people... More

Left the place after standing at the bar for ten minutes while the bartender did nothing other than chat with her friends. The place smelled so bad that we would probably have left anywhere, but the fact that the bartender saw us standing there waiting for service and did not even acknowledge sent us back into the cold. Places right... More

Went on a Friday night, had a great time with a group of friends. Danced all night! Blues always has awesome bands. BUT~don't eat there. Eat anywhere else, and come back for the music. Fun place, will be back-for music and drinks only!

We saw a live band here that was literally amazing. We just stumbled upon it at 11:30 pm and show was over at 1am and we were so disappointed we didnt get there sooner. I think the band might have been Felix Brown or something like that. But this place was an awesome scene, cool layout, not badly priced drinks,... More

Decent bar with live band entertainment. We saw triple threat which is a local band and were very good. Somewhat of a dive bar but aren't most blues joints.

I'd love to tell you the place was historic, food was great, and the service superb.....but I can't because we never got inside. I called a week before our trip to make reservations- they don't take reservations. I was told to come by around 8 and we'd be seated at a pub table, could order dinner and stay for the... More
