Nice German atmosphere, however, I think the food is over rated and over priced. The location is ideal as it is very near to the heart of town.

Used to go to this restaurant in the 70's when in college in Springfield. Loved it. Back a number of times since. Always good. Place changed hands 2 years ago. Was afraid it would have lost its edge. Not so. Took our German daughter in law there. Six of us in all. Place was beautifully restored and expanded. All the... More

We traveled from the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts for a regular health appointment at Baystate. While we've often asked staff at the hospital for a restaurant recommendation, they seem to only know McDonalds or Subway. Investigating for ourselves just a short drive into downtown Springfield allowed us to discover The Student Prince. The staff really made the place as they... More

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Perhaps you now have something to look forward to when you have medical appointments. Springfield has not had the best of times in the past few decades, but we think that with the advent of the casino and a large railcar factory the City Streets will look much younger in the... More

I have my sister bring me here every time I visit. I love the fried cheese triangles with the mustard, and I get their wedge salad with their special dressing. The salad could use a few more pieces of bacon and tomatoes, but it's the dressing that is so good. We have always had great service here, and it is... More

Thanks for your review. Our fried Camembert cheese has been a favorite for generations.the mustard sets off the cheese very well. We will ask the chef to toss a bit more tomato in the salad. And more bacon! We hope to see you on Fort Street. More

Went to have dinner with a friend who suggested this place. I tried the German sampler. The goulash was tender and full of different flavors. I had the knockwurst which was kind of bland and I had a chop that tasted like ham instead of a pork chop. Very tender and juicy! The French onion soup was pretty good too!

Thanks for your post, It is always nice to try something a bit different. I love the smoked pork chop, perhaps with a bit of red cabbage and a smear of mustard. Even though we are best known as a German restaurant we sell lots of onion soup. We will shortly start our decorating for Christmas . The place will... More

This was out fourth time back here. It's central to a group of friends scattered all over the northeast. We meet here once a year (or so). The beer selection is phenomenal, the bartenders are skilled and very generous, and as always, the food is awesome. We had several rounds of the oysters. The Brussel sprouts disappeared quickly and so... More

Thanks for your kind words. It is fun to share some appetizers with friends and Zach does a great job with the sprouts. It seems that a few years back the petit cabbages were oft served after several hours of boiling and were scorned. They have now become stars in the culinary firmament. Our sandwich selections are popular and I... More

My wife and I have been going to "the Prince" as we call it for more than 25 years. It is our favorite restaurant in Western New England and we frequent it often. Our son, who turns 21 today, learned proper manners and how to behave in a restaurant from a very early age at the Prince. Many of the... More

Thanks for your nice review. My Dad was not given to flowery rhetoric, but was committed to running a fine restaurant. Our menu has been streamlined, which as you mentioned was necessary. The new management team is doing a good job managing to bring the establishment into the 21'st century while keeping the traditions of the establishment. We hope that... More

The Fort is one of two great German restaurants near downtown Springfield, very authentic down to beer & wine, menu (even the service staff) Bavarian dining experience.

We arrived late for our reservations this past Thursday night due to the snow and slow traveling on the highway (Snowtober, part II). We were on a deadline having tickets at City Stage across the street yet the staff could not have worked harder to get us out on time, we even had ten minutes to spare. The food was... More

Thanks for your nice review. We have enjoyed having CityStage as a neighbor for many years. We have greeted many theatre goers and at times, a celebrity or two. We fed Vanessa Redgrave Dinner four nights in a row. She loved our soup. The snow was not all that bad in the city, although plows were out on the Mass... More

We don't visit Springfield often, but when we do, we eat here! Family friendly, always a few large multigenerational parties, everyone is having a good time. The food is served hot and fast- portions are not too small, not too large. Love love love the red cabbage! It's the sort of restaurant you wouldn't search out, but if you go... More

Thanks for you nice post. We had a good night and it is so nice to see people, holstering their phones and having fun. I think that I might snack on a bit of red cabbage while watching football today. I find that it goes nicely with dark beer. Thanks again and we hope to See you on Fort Street. More
