This is one of the best German oriented restaurants we have ever been to. Service, food, staff are the best! We go there often!

The Prince has been a landmark restaurant in Springfield forever! The decor is very old-school German bierstube that includes many, many beer steins on display, with many, many blue Delft-style plates hung on the walks. If that isn't enough look for the many mounted deer heads and/or antlers! There's a long beer list of imported draughts to choose from to... More

Thanks for taking the time to review our establishment. One can spend a lot of time examining all the items in the collection. Deb is a very good server and I will share your review with her. I have told the kitchen staff about the tough piece of veal and hopefully this problem will not take place again. Thanks again... More

This is our first time eating here and enjoyed it very much. Our party of three started with the excellent and midly spicy Goulash soup and Potato pancakes, While I prefer grated potatio pancakes these were with mashed potatos, I had the Chicken Paprika schnitzel while the others had the pork Jager Schnitzel and we all had the red cabbage... Thanks for your nice review. One of the things learned in the restaurant business is that our products can never compete with those cooked by a customer's mother or grandmother. Our red cabbage is prepared the same way it has been done for the fifty years that I have worked on Fort Street. Our schnitzels are classic preparations. We wish... More

Student Prince Cafe is a go to thats always great, its consistent food at very fair prices, its a German restaurant that can get loud, as long as you dont mind that its good. The japaleño chicken tenders, and the smoked trout are amazing.

We appreciate your nice review. It is interesting that the two items that you enjoyed are a bit of a reflection of the redone establishment, one is a classic German dish, and the other is a contemporary item, not associated with Germanic cuisine. Thanks again! More

The good news for diehard fans of this landmark Springfield eatery is that most of the menu favorites are still there. The not-so-good news is that the kitchen is still hit-or-miss. Sauerbraten was barely edible in a glutinous sauce.

We appreciate your review. While is is more pleasant to read good write-ups, we need to be made aware of any deficiencies in the operation. The kitchen staff is aware of your thoughts and we will strive to improve the sauerbraten. A few years back our recipe for sauerbraten was published in Gourmet magazine. We hoppe that you give us... I really look forward to dining at the Fort. A great combination of American and German cuisine. I like any of the schnitzel and sausage dishes. Fried cheese, roasted brussel sprouts in honey and the house salad with the homemade blue cheese dressing are good starters. Fabulous old world bar. A definite destination when I return to the area.

It is always nice to get a good review especially from a "pickyeater". We have been trying to keep the Germanic classic meals that have been a mainstay since 1935 and add a few more contemporary dishes to the mix. We are glad that you enjoyed and hope to see you on Fort Street! More

We had a wonderful meal here with friends, at their suggestion. The food was varied and excellent. Service, excellent. Our waitress was so funny. She even laughed at my jokes. Free valet parking just made it better.

Nice German atmosphere, however, I think the food is over rated and over priced. The location is ideal as it is very near to the heart of town.

Used to go to this restaurant in the 70's when in college in Springfield. Loved it. Back a number of times since. Always good. Place changed hands 2 years ago. Was afraid it would have lost its edge. Not so. Took our German daughter in law there. Six of us in all. Place was beautifully restored and expanded. All the... More

We traveled from the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts for a regular health appointment at Baystate. While we've often asked staff at the hospital for a restaurant recommendation, they seem to only know McDonalds or Subway. Investigating for ourselves just a short drive into downtown Springfield allowed us to discover The Student Prince. The staff really made the place as they... More

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Perhaps you now have something to look forward to when you have medical appointments. Springfield has not had the best of times in the past few decades, but we think that with the advent of the casino and a large railcar factory the City Streets will look much younger in the... More
