I start each day of my Santa Fe vacations with a visit to Downtown Subscription. It has the perfect local neighborhood ambience, excellent coffee and food choices, and a wide selection of unique publications. In addition to all that, it affords some of the best...More

Great coffee stop while on canyon road. It's a bit out of way but such a relaxing spot. Little book store has fabulous selection of books and magazines.

Cute little coffee shop with a huge magazine section next to Garcia books. They offer quiche, coffee/coffee drinks, teas, and pastries. I had a spinach bacon quiche which was wonderful! The crust was just right and the flavors melded perfectly. The roobios tea was freshly...More

One of the most popular places to have coffee in Santa Fe. One of the few places you can buy a New York Times anytime!

A great place to people watch and catch snippets of conversation, or to have a meeting of your own. Good atmosphere to do some writing. The coffee is not always great; but, with a little banana bread the cappuccino is fine. Excellent magazine selection. The...More

This is a great coffee shop to visit on the weekend or any day. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, a scone (the cranberry is yummy) and the newspaper. Relax and spend some time. Chat with the neighbor at the next table. Great place...More

Nice out of the way coffee bar that also sells periodicals. Had the Mexican chocolate which I expected to have chili but I didn't taste it. Plenty of room to sit for a bit without the crowds of the plaza area.

Nice place to relax for a cup of coffee in the afternoon when it is not too busy. The coffee was good & my friend had a dessert & she liked it.

We rented a house on Garcia street and enjoyed daily mochas from Downtown Subscription. The coffee shop has a variety of coffees, teas, breakfast pastries, quiche and wraps. Newspapers and magazines are also available for purchase. The restaurant has its own parking lot and seemed...More

Hello, This is a reply to the message posted by ccmick66, owner of Downtown Subscription. This is the only way I can see to do it, as I could find no "reply" option. Thank you for your thoughtful response, Casey. Please understand that I aim for fairness in all my reviews. I simply called it as I saw it. Let me elaborate. I used to go to DS often several years ago, and would see a few local/regulars mixed in with tourists. In the past month I visited a couple of times and the customers I saw sitting inside did not at all look like locals, per my subjective view. I didn't recognize a single one, although I don't claim to know everyone in Santa Fe despite living here. If you are correct that 90% of customers are "local regulars", then either I'm plain wrong, the days I visited were anomalous for some reason, or ? But why don't I have a similar take on certain other cafes? Dunno, but I guess I do question the 90% statistic. In any case, what I wrote was my honest impression -- and that's the best I can do. I continue to enjoy the coffee drinks at Downtown Subscription and intend to continue going there in the future. Thanks again, Elventhing
