El Mirador is the real thing. It ranks right up there with the very best Mexican restaurants in S.A. It was great in 1979 when I was a student at a local university and it remains so today. I took my son to see an exhibition Major League Baseball game this spring. I told him about this legendary restaurant that... More

El mirador has lost its flavor...ordered beef fajitas to go, covered in almost raw onions, green pepper and jalapeño, tiny bit of rice, no flavor. Dry beef. So disappointed. Could barely choke down...I give 2stars only because I used to enjoy the restaurant, but needs an overhaul ...the neighborhood needs this place....

So nice to find a relaxing place off the craziness of the Riverwalk. This is in South Town, and recommended by a friend who lives locally. The place has a history, having been established in 1968, and the owner still works the kitchen.Great friendly service. Margarita was good, Negra Modelo satisfying, and Diablo Margarita was a gingery slushie (yum!). We... More

New to San Antonio and have often heard about the "must try local original". While those have been ok, I thought the real gem still awaited. I found it today with my new friends. I ordered the Azteca soup and Número Uno...enchiladas. I couldn't finish it all. So delicious and very much NOT your typical Mexican food stuff. Fresh, flavorful... More

We wanted to leave the craziness of the RiverWalk and a recommendation from Arbor House sealed the deal. We had a great dinner. The shrimp with garlic sauce was incredible.

My family and I wanted something within walking distance of our hotel and saw good reviews for El Mirador...and for good reason! We expected it to be busy but we walked right in and were seated at noon on a Sunday. The owner stopped by to chat and asked our daughter about the cheer competition she was clearly headed to.... We went to El Mirador on the line between breakfast and lunch. Some had breakfast and some had lunch. I had the Chicharrones with scrambled eggs, potatoes and beans with a barbacoa taco. The barbacoa was so good. I love barbacoa from San Antonio and just can't find it as good where I live. The breakfast for everyone was great.... More

I had lunch here while visiting from out of town before a football game at the Alamodome. The restaurant had a backroom with a bar and TVs showing sports hosting a large group but there was also a plenty of normal restaurant seating. The frozen margaritas and enchiladas were both great. The Aztec soup is only served on Saturdays, but... More

We live in San Antonio on a part time basis. If you are looking for a quality restaurant with a nice ambiance, friendly staff and exceptional, authentic Mexican food, then El Mirador should make your short list of places to check out.

This is a family-owned and managed restaurant. The family has been in the San Antonio area for many generations (see the historical photos in the family dining room–they're great!). The food is typical regional Mexican food, but much better than the typical Tex-Mex fare found in most local restaurants. The chicken mole is very good. The desserts are great too... More
