I've been visiting this place for more than 10 years, and it's been open less and less often over the years. Someone will buy or lease the place and promise to open the restaurant, but usually nothing happens and once, when it did open, it closed down again about a month later. Even now there are rumblings, but I'll believe... More

This has been a great place in the past and we were saddened to see it closed. Should it reopen we are definitely interested in being their clientele. It is truly historic and a place worth seeing.

Unfortunately The Shaffer Hotel and dining room has a long history of short occupancies by multiple "new owners." Maybe that's because it's haunted? That's what the locals believe. Try again later. It's worth a stop just to get a peak inside. Alas, you'll have to wait for the next entrepreneur to give it a shot.

Passing through Mountainair on motorcycles we decided to stop and have lunch at Café Flamenco. We were greeted by a lovely lady only to find out she was the new owner. Wait staff was very friendly. The food was great and beyond what we expected. The new owner told us all about how she came to own the restaurant and... More

We always love to stop by the Shaffer Hotel in Mountainair because it is a landmark and close to the Salinas Ruins. We have stayed in the hotel and plan to return again. This stop we noticed a new name in the window and were greeted by a lovely woman named Hadassah. She is a joy to talk to and... More

The new restaurant Cafe Flamenco has opened in the historic Shaffer Hotel. Had dinner there last night. Very good. The wait staff was terrific. Portions quite large. Table Cloths and linen napkins! The dinner menu is limited to two items. However, you can order from the lunch menu too. We are hoping they make a go of it this time.... More

haven't eaten here yet. It's only been reopened for two days. It's worth the stop to see the historic hotel and dining room. A quick chat with the owners last week made me very hopeful that they are here to stay AND here to add luster to the already wonderful dining room. I hear they'll be serving wine and beer,... More

Our little town of Mountainair is abuzz with talk that the Shaffer Restaurant and Hotel has new owners and is slated to open at the end of March 2015. This is very welcome news confirmed by a personal visit with the new staff and owners. The Restaurant will be called The Flamenco, and one can only hope that it will... More

Good luck finding something to eat here. It's been closed for six months. Tragic for the town. We can only hope the owner will sell to someone who will care for the property.
