What's not to like? Definitely not "TexMex", El Charro has an authentic traditional and creative menu. Owner-operated by one family for 80 years, in a historic neighborhood. Extensive appetizers, soups, main dishes. Every one tastes great! Excellent service in rooms in renovated houses. Moderate prices. Street parking, free. Check them out online!

Decided to try on the recommendation of a local acquaintance so expectations were high. Came in for an early dinner and we discovered it is good to be early as the place fills up fast at dinnertime. Had trouble finding someone to seat us. Waiters sent us to various doors and still found no one to seat us. On third... More

We had no reservation but were promptly seated. Drink orders were taken and quickly delivered. The restaurant was very busy. As we were leaving there was a line waiting to be seated. The food was served as ordered. It was hot and the portions were more than generous. Our server was very attentive even though he was very busy serving... More

My sister and I decided to go to El Charro for our birthday lunch. She was excited because she had never been, I was too, however, it became the WORST experience at a restaurant that we had ever had. We were sat in a back corner, right by the kitchen, where the door swings open. Immediately, I foresaw the potential... More

We had lunch on a Tuesday and arrived before the restaurant was very busy (although it filled up in the hour+ we were there). Food was decent, but did not live up to the hype...and service was SUPER slow. The restaurant layout also left you feeling a bit crowded. Overall, it was o.k., but I wouldn't be rushing back any... Just great enchiladas, beans and rice! Lovely seating on outdoor porch, margaritas, and many delicious choices! Will definitely return.

This place was slammin busy. Two doors down is a holding area "bar". We opted to hang out in front for the wait. Good people watching. Not much in the way of cheap parking around this location. Food and drink = fantastic. Enjoyed the margarita on the rocks. A first for me as I always have chosen frozen. I learned... More

We had a great dinner here on March 21. The Tamales , tachos, enchiladas and Margaritas were excellent. Service was attentive and fast. Fun atmosphere. We will be back.

We love this place. Had reservations and were seated shortly after we arrived. This place is always busy and has the best Mexican food in Tucson. I had the handmade tamales. They were terrific and portioned perfectly. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas which I found were ok and very expensive. Everyone liked the dish they ordered. If there was... More

El Charro is the only restaurant in Tucson where you can get carne seca - a delightful dried beef mixed with a wonderful array of spices! It is a Tucson delicacy. The original location has a great outdoor area for dining or charming small rooms inside if you prefer. You will not be disappointed.

Thank Patricia K
