Providence has many fine restaurants but for our money, year in and year out, Al Forno continues to be one of the best. But other folks think so too and it is usually very busy. Reservations for parties of less than 6 are not accepted (except on Valentines Day and for Brown graduation weekend (booked up a year in advance)).... More

If you like arrogance without a smile or are comfortable being talked down to by people who have no clue about service unless they know you, then this is the place to be. So I am with my husband and another couple who are pregnant. They will accommodate the pregnant women's request but not my allergies. Make sure when you... More

This restaurant is supposedly the originator of the "grilled" pizza. It is amazing, as is the rest of the menu. Can be very crowded on the weekend, so go early for a bar seat(the tables are very close together).

We having been trying to get to Al Forno for years. We know that the restaurant doesn't take reservations. We were passing through Providence at about 4:00 PM, when it first opens, and were able to get a table. This restaurant lived up to its expectations with the food. We started with one of their signature pizzas with arugula pesto... More

I'm a native Rhode Islander. And when I think I want a great meal, I think Al Forno. I'm not going to lie, it's a busy place. You're going to wait. Sometimes you get lucky and can get in. The bar is decent and has some space where you can stand. But I take a crowded restaurant as a good... More

I'd heard about this place for years on various cooking outlets, as George and Johanne are so highly regarded in the culinary world, but WOW! Nothing could have prepared me for just how damn good it was. And busy? Prepare to wait, it's worth it, I promise. Order a glass of wine, sit in the bar (if you can get... More

On our second visit to Al Forno - just two of us, it seems that the restaurant is more interested in the larger groups. We arrived one hour after opening at 5.15 p.m. only to be told that it would probably be around 9.00 p.m. before we could be seated. How disappointing as we were celebrating a special anniversary. The... More

This was one of he very special occasion we booked dinner on a Saturday night last week( it happened to be George's anniversary, he passed away last year), a party of 6 at 5PM( place open at 4pm, and it's already packed. Wood grilled pizza with pumpkin topping was excellent, both pasta dishes were rich & tasty. My wife's lamb... More
