Kawaihae is a very small little town, just up the road from the mega-resorts of the Kohala coast. We stopped by to pick up a bento box for lunch. The place is very small and there is really no seating. As the name states, this is a take-out facility. The cashier and chef were both friendly. The food is typical... More

My wife and I had lunch here today. It is a tiny hole in the wall that serves good plate lunches. The menu has a good variety including sushi and salads. It took 20 minutes to get our food since they cook your food fresh. I would much prefer a wait than re-heated food. Prices were reasonable and the kitchen... More

It was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the restaurants. It was an outdoors venue with a pretty good selection. We had fish tacos and for being 4,000 miles from Baja they did a pretty good job.

We were told that this place was very good, had the rice bowl and ahi roll, roll was huge, too much rice, the bowl ....Well the rice is cold, with half a serving of poke and the rest is salad. Never had it served like that before, the tuna tasted fresh but the overall experience was not so good. Should... More

Enjoyed the Korean chicken plate which was amazing. It's full of flavor and has some spice to it. My friend got the fish and chips which had a great tartar and fries. The wait was only 15 minutes even with it being very busy. Will be coming back again.

It smelled so good, but it took over 20 minutes to make one dish. We had hoped it would be worth the wait but The chicken was over cooked. Disappointing.

Excellent food and service. The food here was excellent enjoyed eating while people watching in chairs outside. No answer because while food was excellent it was takeout.

For freshness and value, this is THE best place to get your poke rice bowl or teriyaki beef bowl. Seriously, we ate at every restaurant in Kawaihae and the 3 voting members of our family all agreed that this was The Place. A plus. And the guys there are nice too. I know everyone thinks Da Fish Shack is where... More

Seems to be a very popular take-out spot. Everything is made-to-order. The store has limited hours (check first), and visiting over a holiday period, we had a significant wait for our food (over 30 min.). Still - no big deal - we were on Hawaii time and browsed the shopping center.

All of the items are made fresh using local ingredients. The shrimp tempura roll and the spicy ahi tuna were delicious. My husband had the Korean chicken salad and pronounced it a huge success. We took our lunch to Spencer Park and enjoyed a spectacular view of the whales breaching.
