We loved our experience at the mountain home inn! The views are beautiful and we loved the mountainy feel! We tried the tuna and turkey club sandwiches and LOVED THEM! The portion were plenty and the food came out super fast. The mint water that...is served with the meal is excellent. They also have a few beers on tap as well as different bottled beer options. We park in the lot across from the Inn, if arriving early, or just past the Fire Station to the right, if late. Walk towards the ocean on the hike of your choice and ride the shuttle bus back - on weekends only. Stop for...an expensive drink - can’t beat the location or ambiance. Mountain Home Inn is beautifully located above Mill Valley with great views around. The menu is quite limited but serves the purpose for lunch. they have few parking spots with priority resident guests. The service was a bit slot and the staff members were constantly...somewhat confused. If the restaurant is even half full, be prepared to wait for the food and service. The view is amazing but the quality of hotel and service is way behind the view. I picked Room 6 over their other rooms for 2 nights, based on info provided on the website, but when we arrived we noticed they put us in another...room (Room 1) without my consent and charged me extra for Room 1 rate difference, while they claimed Room 6 has maintenance/plumbing issues. Although the new room had also plumbing issues as well since the shower faucet was broken and they offered me a screwdriver to use while showering, or move to another smaller room, which we refused. While check-out, I insisted to get charged for the original confirmed rate and contacted them twice without any response or progress, it seems they don't care about customer satisfaction at all. When they charge like an upscale 5-star hotel, you expect to receive same level of customer service, which is NOT the case here. The facility aged a lot. The food quality is average. They lack enough staff to take care of the hotel and restaurant/bar. Don't recommend anything at this place to anyone.More

Dinning room closes at 9pm. Great breakfast, Sunday brunch, also have had dinner here. A long drive up the hill, but worth it. We have friends who live nearby and eat here often.

We started the day in Muir Woods and hiked into Mt. Tamalpais State Park. The hike finished on the Panoramic Trail trailhead parking lot right across from Mt. Home. This place is pretty much all by itself on the Panoramic highway. They have a bar and dining, and the views from the patio are spectacular.

I chose this hotel because of its location on the edge of Muir Woods and was not disappointed. It's really the only place to stay if you want to be near Mt Tam and do a minimum of driving. The Inn has been operating since...1895 and has not really been modernized but it does have a lot of charm. The main floor contains the "Front desk" (actually the bar) and the restaurant, and the guest rooms are on the lower level which is essentially the basement, so if you don't like staying underground this may give you pause. The rooms are a bit dated but still charming and offered nice views into the property but not really across the bay as the photos might lead you to believe. The restaurant is wonderful and the outside deck/dining area has incredible views across the bay to San Francisco. We ate every meal there (there aren't a lot of restaurant options in that location anyway). Every meal was fantastic.More

Melancholic, Dilapidated, Unclean, and Horrifically Over Priced Hotel/Inn The wear and tear,filth,tattered rugs,the bathroom floor dirty, baseboards,heater and door were covered with filth. It was so dusty we were sneezing and coughing. There is no Air Conditioning but with windows open and box fan we...were able to tolerate the night. We paid over 400 dollars for the night and could have stayed at many of the great 4-5 star hotels in San Francisco for less. It was so bad that even my husband slept in his clothes on top of the duvet. We got up at 5 am and just left. This Inn has location which is great for Muir Woods and hiking. It has the views which are so beautiful. It could be so special in this great location but unfortunately its not. Paint, Flooring, Soap and a little scrubbing could do so much for it. Neglect and lack of care by employees or owners is evident. Parking is a problem only 6 spots for the restaurant and registers guest. I love hiking, SFO, and this area so much I really wanted this place to be good so I could return for another stay when hiking in Muir. There are other Hotels and Inns nearby that are nice with a much lower price point. Believe the reviews, I didn't and it was a mistake.More

We didn't stay at the inn however, we did eat at the restaurant. Very rustic and homely atmosphere. I had Crab Cakes and Vodka Mint Hot Chocolate which was delicious! If you're in the area definitely go.
