Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good food. A little pricey but worth it. Servings were appropriate. We had the House Chips and Bang Bang Shrimps as starters. Both were good. Surf and Turf for our entrees. Too full for dessert. Pretty unassuming from the outside, I'm not sure I would...have stopped if it hadn't be rated on tripadvisor. Glad I did though because I am sure we will go back.More

The mask requirement signs are posted on the doors but once inside the bar some people are ignoring the "no standing" or walking around without mask considerations. Went to this bar with some friends for their annual ugly Christmas sweater party! Was crowded but was a fun crowd. The Male bartender, cant remember his name, but said he was the manager, took multiple shots with my group and when we got our...tabs we realized that we weren't charged for several rounds of shots. This place is like a cheers bar. Cant wait to visit again and get that next round on the bartender!!More

We found this place when we were staying in nearby Harper's Ferry (WV) and came for a anniversary dinner. The server was great and on his recommendation we both had the Seafood Platters. It was the BEST! I haven't had a crab cake like that,...EVER! It was unbelievable to me! No breading at all, just chunks of real crab and seasoned goodness. The scallops were perfect and the fish and shrimp were great too! My husband even ate the fish on his, and he typically doesn't eat fish at all. I just wish we had room for dessert. On some Sunday's they have a "paint night" which looked really interesting but we didn't stay for. I will definitely be going back next time we are in the area.More

Callahan’s may look unprepossessing from the outside, but don’t be fooled. There’s great food and attentive, friendly staff inside. It’s a pleasantly retro experience from the days when everything wasn’t part of a chain, and the main point was the food, not the outward show....Inside the decor is cozy, with a fireplace, wood columns, nice tablecloths, and a full bar in back. We needed only a light lunch while on a long business trip headed back to VA from WV. I had the apple salad with walnuts and Gorgonzola cheese; my husband had fish and chips. But first, a cup rack of the crab soups: he had red Maryland crab soup. I had the Cream of crab, and that alone was worth 5 stars! I noted also there’s a very delicious looking and varied dinner menu with everything from lobster to steak. Highly recommended.More

The food is exceptional! We had the BACON WRAPPED BBQ shrimp and SCALLOPS. Also we enjoyed the combo of shrimp, lobster tail and crab legs. The service was lovely. There is an issue with access to the ladies restroom that prevents me from giving this...place a 5 star rating.More

“Hands down, best crab cakes in Frederick.” So advised my brother, who has lived in Frederick for thirty years. I made no other local comparisons, but they were darn good! Even better you can order them in at least five different combinations. I got just...a plain cake on a plate for research purposes. But I could have had a sandwich, slider, on a seafood platter or surf ‘n turf, as well as a “Signature Single” or double. We were in town for a family wedding, had half the clan with us (ages 2 months to 75 years) and ran a good bit of the menu, which is straightforward offering seafood, burgers, steaks and chicken. I also enjoyed the Maryland crab soup and some raw Eastern shore oysters (forgot to ask the specific name, but you see them everywhere). The kids loved the burgers and flat bread pizza. Only the fried pickles got a disappointed rating. Nothing I would call vegan, but a very good vegetarian flat bread. In sum, the food was tasty, the beer cold and the service wonderfully accommodating and friendly. My other brother is walker dependent and had no troubles navigating the place. But don’t be misled by my crab cake quest. Callahan’s is not an inland crab shack. In many ways it was my fantasy idea of the perfect shore-themed road house. Nautical décor, dart board, some sort of Keno in the back, varied seating options, sports TVs at the bar and a very warm and welcoming presence. If we lived there, we all agreed we would go again. And again.More

I stopped here after spending the day at Harper's Ferry - I was hungry and dressed very casually. Since it was a B & G, I assumed it was OK for casual dress, and despite the white tablecloths, I was correct. But, the wait staff...and food was extraordinary! I started with a small bottle of prosecco wine, which was just what I wanted! Then the green salad was cold and crisp with great Bleu cheese dressing on the side. Then, I ordered a Maryland crab cake - it was perfection! All meat and no fillers and cooked to perfection! I had to have a piece of Key Lime Pie for dessert - YUMMY! I overate, for sure, but everything was so good I couldn't help it! Can't wait to come back and visit this wonderful spot again! Thank you! It is rare that I can offer 5 stars for food, but I would give them six if I could!!!!!More

My boyfriend and I visited Frederick and were interested in eating seafood. We decided to try Callahan’s even though the decor and ambience was traditional and outdated. We enjoyed our entire dinner! I had the Maryland Crab soup and dinner salad and my boyfriend ordered...the Seafood platter. The seafood platter came with one crab cake (delicious and full of crab), scallops, shrimp and fish of the day which was rockfish. It also came with two side dishes. We ordered veggies and baked potato. The zucchini was fantastic! It was not wimpy and over cooked; it was al debts. The scallops and shrimp were deliciously prepared and of course, the crab cake was awesome! The only bad part of the meal were the mussels. There were few mussels on this “special”... some didn’t even open. Also, the bread(rolls) were pitiful. All in all, the dinner was very good But do not go here if you are looking for atmosphere and ambiance. This place looks like it was made for old folks.. and the customers there showed it.More

I had a hankering for seafood, specifically crab, and my mouth really watered for soft crabs. However, it's getting late in the season, so I called Callahan's and ordered a crab cake sandwich for both me and the wife. When I picked up the order,...the fella explained that they didn't carry soft crabs anyway (that's another story). BOY, WAS I LUCKY!! This was probably the best crab cake sandwich, on a par with any I have ever had!! As a recent resident of Frederick, after 72 years in Baltimore, I didn't know the area too well, but I've had a few good meals here, particularly with the seafood. I'm sure there was some filler somewhere, but all I could taste was fat, juicy, flavorful back fin lump crab. Although it could have used some Old Bay, the flavor stood proudly on its own and I savored every morsel. As the gentleman said as I walked out of the restaurant, "Crabcakes are the best thing we have!"More
