Really good choice if you have out of state--or country--visitors who should see a real Texas cafe. Food is good and reasonable. Worth a visit!

Wife and I were on our way from Junction City, Texas to Caldwell, Texas. Stop at Hill Country Cupboard for a quick lunch. Bad mistake. Service was as poor as I have seen. Only two people working tables and didn't seem to know where they were at. Food was OK, but by the time we got it I had almost... More

Stopped here on the way out of town. The t bone steak was well seasoned, and the mashed potatoes were decent. My sister's soup was lukewarm, and came out at the same time of the steak. The buttermilk pie tasted a little weird. Not really impressed, food is ok.

Late afternoon stop after LBJ Ranch tour before heading back to Austin. Service was very good as the place was not busy. Lots of fried food choices so if you need comfort food, this is the place. Chicken fried steak is specialty, but preferred a hamburger which was delicious. Good place to eat and easy to find along the main... More

I was the 1st customer early Sunday morning. Just a table of local old men drinking coffee. I'm only 60. Too young for that group. The lady offered a menu but they advertise the best chicken fried steak in the world. A tall order. So I had to try it. While I don't know if it was the greatest I've... More

Saturday night dinner after swimming all day. Love a place with a full bar to go with food. Had the catfish and it was perfectly battered with perfectly crisped fries. My buddies all loved their food, which was chicken fried steak, a burger, and the ribeye. The pie afterwards was amazing with the best type of crust: light and home... More

After visiting nearby Pedernales Falls we wanted something to eat before continuing on to San Antonio and found this spot in LBJ's hometown. Started with the fried mushrooms which might've been the best I've ever had, then the chicken fried steak which is their signature dish and I wasn't dissatisfied,it came with two sides. For sides I chose fried okra and... More

Stopped off after visiting the Hill Country Science Mill to try the chicken fried steak. I was really hungry and thought it was kind of bland, but good. Not the best I've had, not the worst. My husband gave it a 6 out of 10. It was busy and our food took a little while to come out. Also tried... More

We stopped here before an evening viewing of a bat emergence. On the plus side it was a welcome relief because it was the only place that was obviously open and findable by its position. The staff were friendly and the food was fine. Has to lose at least one point because No WiFi which is a must for tourists... More

We normally stop in here for breakfast or lunch, depending on our destination, both are good. I can't say much about the ambiance, it's a hill country cafe, but the food and service are always great. The baked goods at the counter are worth taking along if you are going to be on the road for awhile. I definitely recommend... More
