I love this place! We frequent the one off old Seward at least every other week if not more and my husband eats at the one downtown for lunch often! We have never had a bad meal here! The shrimp poboy is my favorite! My husband usually gets whatever the special is for the day! Love the sausage! Husband had... More

We ate there at lunch. I ordered the catfish po boy, which was delicious and huge. Amazing catfish, freshly fried and crispy, light corn meal breading, plenty of lettuce and just the right amount of aoli. I chose the potato salad as my side and it was creamy, a little mustardy and the red-skinned potatoes were perfectly cooked. The bowl... More

My husband and I were looking for a new and interesting place to have lunch in Anchorage. We enjoy Cajun food but many places have dry bread and over done po'boys but not the gumbo house. Based on reviews we asked for the calamari Po-Boys as it was not on the menu. It was fantastic and we enjoyed it immensely.... More

Anchorage is not the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of gumbo, but this place does a good job with it. The fried oysters were very good, as well. A real touch of Louisiana.

I had the pleasure of joining some friends and co-workers for lunch at The Gumbo House recently, and it was amazing! 1st of all, the Gumbo House is actually a house, that has been made into a cozy restaurant near downtown Anchorage. The place was busy with the lunch crowd, but the service was excellent (fast and efficient)! The family... More

We always go to The Gumbo House when were in Anchorage. I recommend anything on the menu. I always get the BBQ Shrimp Poe Boy sandwich which comes with just the right amount of shrimp, on a hoagie, with coleslaw on the side. Another favorite is the Kitchen Sink gumbo, has everything just right with a beautiful dark rich roux.... More
