All reviews fish and chips burger calamari sandwiches salad french fries cold beer honokohau harbor great view of the harbor open air seating friendly servers on tap lunch or dinner schooner boats birds breeze
If you want fine dining this isn't your place. If you want a cold beer, with quality bar food, and a great view of the harbor in a laid back place away from tourists then this is a stellar place for that. The fish and...chips was good, the smoked pork appetizer was unique and the Kona beer was cold and affordable. And shoot, attractive, friendly servers are kind of nice too.More
Another place that we have a LOOOONG memory of visiting. Good points: The fish is generally really good no matter how you order it. The beer is absolutely CHILLED! The service is relatively quick and upbeat cheerful. It's more of a local place than a...tourist hangout but attracts a wide customer base. The view is nice if you like looking at boats and birds. The down side....if there's not a breeze there's a few too many flies zipping around and more than in many local outdoor restaurants. The place could use an update in tables and decor. Still did I say the fish and chips are the best ever?????More
The first visit to this great restaurant/bar was on the recommendation of a friend and then we stopped in again just because we were in the area. When we first entered it was obvious that it was a good place to be, as there were...lots of locals. All of the food & drinks that we had on both occasions were great, the staff was attentive, friendly and efficient. Besides the great food, drinks, staff the atmosphere of it being located at the harbor and watching the activities going on there the prices were very reasonable.More
Food has deteriorated very much but the nerve of them being fully open when every single restaurant in Hawaii is either closed or only take out show the complete disrespect of the community by the owners as new cases of Coronavirus have been reported in...KonaMore
The wife and I ate there on a Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't busy which should have been a warning. The location of the restaurant is outstanding if you want to be near the water, which we did. The restaurant did not have a feeling...of being clean, which may have had something to do with the location of being near the marina. After being seated it was approximately five minutes before our server appeared, flopping the menus in front of us. A few minutes later she returned and we ordered a diet coke and the wife had a glass of chardonnay, which came in an airplane bottle. My diet coke was served without a straw, which i subsequently requested, but was told the restaurant did not have straws. My diet coke tasted flat and syrupy. The wife said her chardonnay was basic, but it was all they had. We both ordered house salads which were nothing more than lettuce. Nothing else was in the salad. I ordered the seafood combination and the wife ordered spring rolls, which were egg rolls, nothing more. My seafood combination consisted of three fried shrimp, frozen fried clam strips and frozen fried fish nuggets. My combination didn't have french fries or cole slaw, just the frozen fried seafood. it was obvious the grease had been used for a very long time. I told my wife I was certain my entree would make me sick, and sure enough about four hours later it did make me sick. The server disappeared for a long time after the entrees were served. When she came back I asked for additional cocktail sauce which brought a frown that was as bad as the frown she gave me when i asked for a straw. No straws in this restaurant. We eventually gave up on the meal and flagged down one of the other servers and asked if she could tell our server we wanted our check. Our server eventually did appear and we asked her for our check. Eight minutes later she appeared with the check and left it on the table. I had my credit card ready to pay, but went AWOL again. Eventually she made it back and picked up the check and the credit card. Eventually she returned, we signed and left. I cannot recommend Harbor House because of the mediocre food. Perhaps my server was having a hard day, but she most definitely didn't have a good evening when we were there. Doubt seriously if we would ever go back.More
Friends of our recommended Harbor House so we dropped in after a whale watching excursion. The scene is pretty casual yet surprisingly busy for lunch. We had some fish and chips and a burger. After a lousy fish and chips experience at another restaurant earlier...in our trip the Harbor House offering was much better. Thank you. The burger was okay- nothing to get excited about. Seemed to be a pretty good choice of menu items as our friends said it’s pretty good for dinner. All in all not a bad placeMore
Service was a little slow, but we were not in a rush. The ahi tuna was superb and my wife's burger looked great. The french fries that came with the burger was more than 1 person could eat, and so shared. Glad that we did.
