We usually love this restaurant. Such great food at a great price that our most recent experience was really sad. My husband went in to order food to go because our 2,4,6, and 8 year old make eating in a restaurant chaos. We spent $50...on items we know are delicious and we were told there would be a 30min wait. Seemed odd considering there weren't any people sitting at tables but maybe they had lots of to-gos. We sat and waited in our car in front of the restaurant. We watched people trickle in. Table after table came in, got their food and no trouble. We even saw a table of 6 who got there after us, sit, order, get their food, eat and pay their bill. We waited and waited and waited. By the time 45mins had passed I had enough. Our kids were getting fussy and we had been watching people who came in 20-30 mins after us get their food without any sign of our order. I finally went up to them and asked them where our food was. That we watched all these tables sit and get their food after we had ordered ours and if ours was forgotten in the back. I could not believe when she told me they hadn't EVEN started it. She said they could put it in now, almost an hour later! I told them no thanks. I wanted a full refund and I wanted our tip back. I'm not sure if we will go back. We have gone here for years but what they did is really unacceptable. As a family who has worked in the restaurant industry and even ran our own restaurant for a short time, we never bumped to-go orders like that. On top of that we were quoted 30mins and then another woman said they were quoting an hour. We dont appreciate being misled or lied to. I am giving two stars because the server took the time to find my reciept with the tip on it and give it back to me so they didn't accidently add it in later on. Sadly my husband enjoys talking with the Chefs and we love the food and we wish they could have taken care of our order when it was placed instead of pushing us so far back we had to sit in our car for almost an hour while we watched at least 5 other tables get their food before I finally found out they STILL hadn't even started our order. Do not order to go unless you want to wait an hour and a half for 4 sushi rolls. So ridiculous, heartbreaking, and disappointing. And yes I wanted to cry because I love their food so much I was really looking forward to it but bumping our order back for that long was really unacceptable and our kids couldn't sit and wait another 15 mins while they finally got around to our order.More

Although the restaurant's location isn't fantastic (patio looks at an intersection), the food and service experience was excellent. It's a smallish space tucked into a shopping plaza and we were promptly sat on the patio just before closing. In order to respect their closing times,...we quickly ordered the 36pc plate and it came out a few minutes after that. The pieces were well constructed, correctly portioned, balanced, and quite tasty. My dinner partner and I went to town on this delicious food and the server came to make sure our meal met our expectations. It did and afterwards I felt the 'that meal hit the spot' and walked away a happy diner.More

I was shearing by car and walking to find this placing calling to staff several times and they were no help as it is not near the old Kona main ocean front road which is not a long street by chance I drove to the...next north south main road between highway and coast Main Street and saw the 76 gas station across the street from the restaurant. They were closing and only take out orders but November advertised limited indoor dining. The food was good but not a $$ level restaurant- more a $$$ level take out. Would I go again perhaps 🤔 I was in a hurry take tour time and choose their menu items that entice you before you orderMore

Good spot for sushi & rolls, esp. for pickup. The 36pc roll platter for lunch is a good deal for 2/3pp. For sashimi and to dine-in I prefer Sushi Cocoro, which is more expensive and on Alii Drive.

Shimaichi stands out among all the other mediocre-to-decent fish/sushi/poke restaurants in kona with excellent nigiri and roll offerings at competitive prices. Service is quick and they have ample parking space. Don't look elsewhere, just eat here. I tried a bunch of poke places during my...trip and Shimaichi definitely topped my list vs competitors.More

Read about this place on Trip Advisor, and it ended up being within easy walk of our hotel, so we gave it a try...twice! Very fresh food, prompt service (given that you have to wait a minute for any fresh sushi to be made), and...really reasonable prices. The basic rolls are about $5 for 5 pieces, the fancier ones $10-$15 for 8 pieces or so. Some of our favorites were the Dragon Fly, Akebono, and Kona Sunset. Like I alluded to, it was so good we went twice.More

We shared the 30 piece plate between 2 people. The plate came with 5 different types of sushi; Ahi, Salmon, shrimp, crunchy cali and normal cali.  Each type was tasty and we thought the combo was good value. It was filling and we ended up...taking 10 pieces away with us. The service was also prompt and friendly.More
