We really enjoyed our meal at Hugo’s. Loved that they had internet. It helped us find our way home! Appetizer was delicious, but fried, so we could barely eat our main meals (and my husband is a big eater). We took it home, and it was delicious for breakfast:) Frito misto, yum. Our mains were excellent. Pasta, and Ono fish. Both were very filling though, quite a bit of oil on the pasta when we reheated it for lunch today. The waves crashing while we ate was so cool. Our servers were excellent. Honoured our Open Table reservations on time, which many restaurants haven’t this trip. I would highly recommend this place. It was pricey, but all places in the vicinity of this caliber seem to be.

You can't beat the view: right on the water in downtown Kona. But I'd stick with drinks (or go next door to sister restaurant On the Rocks) instead of dining. The dinner entrees are $30-$40 and if the appetizers we had are any indication, unlikely to be worth the price. Also, service is just OK. But that view -- fantastic.

My husband and I try to be somewhere special every Valentines day. Once we booked for Kona my husband searched for and booked Huggo's months in advance. We were not disappointed. We had a table for 2 overlooking the ocean and it was very romantic. We shared the Fritto Misto (calamari, shrimp and artichoke) while I had the fettuccini with shrimp and my husband had the Cioppino. The food was excellent and our server Jessica was great. Thank you for the memories.

Huggo’s on the Rocks and Huggo’s Restaurant are sister establishments side by side. “Rocks” is a typical seaside bar with beautiful view. We stopped in early afternoon for a couple of cocktails which were very good albeit quite expensive. We also shared an order of nachos with Kalua pork which came out of a food truck/trailer that were excellent! Huggo’s Restaurant was entirely different. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and promptly ordered a bottle of Champagne. About 10 to 15 minutes later the waiter returned and wanted to know if we wanted a drink. We reminded him of the Champagne and he laughed a said “I guess I forgot”. At that time we ordered a bottle of sparkling water. About 10 to 15 minutes late he returned again to take our order. We asked about our water and he said “I guess it is still on the bar”?? We then discussed the menu. Being a seafood restaurant, I inquired about what was fresh. He said “everything is fresh”. I asked what came in today and he replied that he had no idea! To make a long story short my fish smelled bad and tasted no better. I eventually asked a busboy to get it off the table just to get rid of the smell. The waiter never returned to the table until well after my partner had completed her dinner. He never asked about my meal despite the fact that it was gone. I told him that it had been bad and that I had it removed and he said “if I had been here I would have replaced it for you”. hmmm.. I wonder where he was? I was comp’ed a desert and ordered a Chocolate desert. Again about 10 minutes later he returned to the table asked what I wanted for desert....my gosh! Then they served us our “neat” after dinner cordials in a tumbler?? I requested snifters and got them but..... Now being NYE, you might think they were busy but I don’t believe they ever exceeded 50% capacity. This place is a disaster.

We went to Huggo’s with great expectations based on recommendations. Our first surprise was that the website menu was not anything like what was being served. We ordered a bottle of wine and then our food. Our courses of food were all served at once, which was ridiculous. 6 dishes at one time. The manager apologized and said that other people eat everything at once. He offered 50% discount on food we sent back without touching. Great view. Horrible dining experience.

We have enjoyed many visits to this restaurant in the 20 years visiting Kona. We also realize they have been reopened for only 2-days now however, the level of service and food was grossly disappointing. I can not recommend visitors to Kona to come to this restaurant! The foo was overpriced and the service was slow. We ordered drinks before our meal only to receive the food far prior to the drinks! More disturbing was that the host seated a couple that was behind us prior to us! Thus behavior for a restaurant is unacceptable and thus our rating of a 2 of 5. There are many other better restaurants in the Kona central area that we can recommend!!!! We visit Kona fior the month of December each year but will not come back to Huggo's!

4 of us went there for Breakfast last Friday...valentines day. We started out with warn coffee. My wife ordered baked eggs o’cado and she said it was the worst breakfast she had in Kona. I had the breakfast pizza and it wasn’t any better. I call this place a drinking place with great view, just eat somewhere else

This place is not over the top 5-star awesome but it is better than a 4-star I’d give it a 4.3-4.5 if available. We came to Hugo’s for breakfast it’s a normal Hawaii open restaurant setting. Very nice we sat right at the waters edge and had a great view. My wife ordered the fresh fruit and toast. Fruit was very ripe and awesome...she said the wheat toast was good also. I had the eggs, potato’s, with Portuguese sausage. It was great I also ordered a banana macadamia pancake on the side. I’m use to coconut syrup but this came with a little container of syrup and coconut cream. It was the best I’ve ever had. They also started us off with a banana macadamia muffin that was great. The service was great and staff seemed to enjoy working here. We will definitely come back.

We had a great dinner with friends at Huggo’s We sat at a sea side table with an amazing view of the ocean. Our waiter (Chad) was at the top of his game. He had great suggestions on what to order and was very attentive but not overbearing. The food was delicious and I highly recommended the coffee cheesecake for desert.

The pub food (Pupu's) at Huggo's restaurant is excellent. Limited seating, but prompt servers and great food and drink make the bar an excellent spot for a light meal. If you are really hungry, sit in the restaurant for a full line steak and seafood menu. Either venue is an excellent choice.

While in Kailua-Kona last week, we stopped at Huggo's couple times, once in the restaurant and once at at On the Rocks. Always loved this place since we discovered it years ago, and this time was no exception. We went about 530 pm and were told there was a 45 minute wait (as usual), so we strolled around town awhile, and in no time they paged me that our table was ready! We were seated near the bar with beautiful views of town and the bay. I was a bit disappointed to find an abbreviated menu (covid related, I'm sure), but we each had the sizzing shrimp ,drinks and shared the Sizzling Big Island Hamakua mushrooms. The ten shrimp were good-sized and absolutely delicious! The mushrooms were served sliced, with Asian spices, and were surprisingly scrumptious! All a bit pricey, but we will not hesitate to visit Huggo's the next time we are in Kailua-Kona

I was so excited that my husband and I were able to get a beautiful waterfront table at Huggo’s! It looked like such a great place. Unfortunately, the service was absolutely terrible. They even expect you to order using a QR code from your phone. So much for a fine dining experience! We barely saw our waiter and when we did he was curt and unhelpful. The food and drinks were very overpriced, but we figured that with such an exceptional view we’d have outstanding food. We’d eaten at six restaurants on the Big Island so far and this was easily the worst food we’ve had on our vacation. The calamari and shrimp appetizer was mostly artichokes fried in old grease and served up like bar food. Our pasta seafood dish was beyond bland and did not include salad or bread. We ordered the overpriced bread as a side and it was honestly the only tasty thing we ate. We had looked forward to live music afterwards at the bar but apparently that was only on Saturday. We’re willing to pay a little more on special occasions for a great atmosphere, good food, and quality service. Huggo’s was a huge disappointment on two out of three and put a dent in the pocketbook on top of it.

Got into town after a 5 mile hike along the Kona shore Not knowing what to expect but being very hungry. We saw Hugos and decided to check in. From the moment we checked in they were fantastic! Our hostesses were very accommodating and got us right in with a minimal wait! Our table was fantastic, right on the water with a beautiful view of the lingering sunset! Our waiter, Luis, Was outstanding! He attended to every detail brought us different tastings of wine and insured that my wife’s dairy allergy Was completely taken care of. He went out of his way to ensure we had a great meal… And it was! I cannot recommend going to Hugos highly enough - you will not be disappointed! Be sure to ask for Luis as your server!

During our last visit to the island we knew we wanted to return to one of our favorite restaurants, Huggo's! We've been to this restaurant a number of times and the locations is always the reason we go. Don't get me wrong the food is good but for us the location continues to bring us back. We went to Huggo's on two occasions this this past week and we particularly enjoyed the breakfast. The service was friendly and the spot didn't disappoint being right on the water. You literally watch the waves, surfers and water activities as you enjoy your meal. The cost is in my opinion mid to high for a meal depending on what you choose. We will be back! If you want to go for dinner reservations are best!

An incredible experience. Our visit started on a busy Monday with a wonderful greeting by the hostess. We asked for a waterfront table to celebrate our anniversary….and she enthusiastically promised she get us a great location. After a 15 minute wait, we were seated on the lower level waterfront with a great view of the sunset.
The meal was superb. As an appetizer, the fish chowder came in a small bowl, and was easily the best fish chowder I’ve ever had-incredibly delicious, full of fish. Honestly, I could have had another bowl for dinner, but instead had the short ribs and shrimp. Again, Just a tremendous meal. My wife had teriyaki steak which was also excellent. We decided to take on dessert with one of the house ice cream special. They are huge!! We almost finished it.
Service was superb and overall I’d say prices are reasonable. We found Hugo’s to be far and away the best dining experience in Kona, clearly a cut above all the tourist centered places there.
