I tried this restaurant on a whim after I spotted it on my phone map while we were at the National WWII museum. It's just a 4 minute walk from the museum and full of local color. From the outside it doesn't look like much...and the neighborhood looks under construction, but the inside is a different story. While we were there for lunch and there were lots of open tables, it looks like the kind of place that would fill up on a Friday night. The atmosphere is causal, where you order at the bar and then pick up at the kitchen window on the other side. The staff was friendly and fast. The food was amazing. I got the Lafitte Pig with a side of collard greens. My friend got the ribs. We both ate every bite. It was just what we were looking for and the price was very reasonable. It's delicious BBQ and not a tourist trap like so many New Orleans restaurants. If you're visiting the WWII museum, skip their food and try this place instead. You'll be glad you did.More

Total worthless place to go. Sat there for 15 minutes not a single server even looked at me. It’s filthy dirty with sticky tables and not worth giving them a dime

I had the burnt tips sandwich and coleslaw. I thought it was very good! We visited on a very chilly Monday night. The place was virtually empty. Service was very quick. You order after walking in, pay and pick your table. The tables were socially...distant from each other with lots of empty space between them. When your food is ready, you pick it up from a window. I felt safe dining here and would visit again.More

A group of us recently started a monthly activity that includes us supporting a local business or eatery. COVID has altered how we all do things and relying on each other to get through has become our priority. Unfortunately, not every business we encountered on...this journey lives up to that. If you have read a few of my reviews, you would see that we have been treated horribly at some places. We stopped in at a restaurant right across the street but were turned away because it was almost closing time. A few other places in the area appeared to be a little bit to 'trendy' for our tastes. This is certainly not the case for the UGLY DOG SALOON that was right across the street! It was near closing time on Saturday, October 24th and they treated a party of about 10 people like family. They were excited to have us and it showed. The bartender who took our order was very nice and assured us that our experience would not be 'rushed' . I believe the gentleman doing all the cooking was 'Walt'. Walt is an excellent man to have preparing the food because everyone really enjoyed their meals. Walt seem to have prepared everything with care. Great Food All Around! Friendly people, and we will for sure be going back and telling others to do the same. The Ugly Dog Saloon appreciated our business and it showed. We sincerely appreciate that more that anything else. They were all very happy to have us a customers and treated us with kindness and gratitude the entire time we were there.More

I was prepared to eat great food and drink cold beer. I had a chicken caesar salad which was not very appetising. At least the beer was cold.

This place is not far from WWll museum and it's funky and fun. You have to order food at the bar and then it will be buzzed to pick it up at the kitchen window. The food is so tasty and has a great southern...style bent. Mac n cheese, baked beans, cole slaw and BBQ meats is a really satisfying and delicious. I would go back in a heart beat.More

Stopped here for lunch with friends after checking out the restaurant across the street. We decided on going with a not so posh option. The smell of BBQ and a crawfish boil outside drew our attention. Walking in gives the feel of a genuine country...BBQ joint with open seating and a bar where you order. You are given a puck and then pick up your food from the window of the kitchen when it goes off. We had the loaded fries, fried pickles, Mac and cheese and smoked buffalo wings and all were excellent! Cold draft beer and fresh brewed tea rounded out the meal. The manager / owner was very personable and chatted with us for a bit. Overall, an excellent choice and highly recommended.More

Stopped in for lunch while attending a convention. Walk inside and place your order at the counter. We ordered Ugly Nachos and a Burnt End Sandwich to share. There are signs that the place gets crowded but at lunch we had our choice of seating....We chose outside and it was very pleasant. We picked up our food at the kitchen counter (buzzer notified you) after a short wait. The Nachos were great and we would order them again. We weren't sure the Burnt Ends were true burnt ends or prepared as such. However, there was an ample supply. Personally, I believe the pork needed more flavor as it was plenty tender. I would go back and order the Nachos.More

Had their Club sandwich, very good. Had a big table so our group (family) sat and talked and laughed. Got our picture taken outside in front of the logo by one of the employees. When do we go back ?

This little gem is just down the street from the WW2 Museum. We were looking for a local place to eat and just stumbled across The Ugly Dog, since we were very hungry, and there was a parking space available we decided to try it....This turned out to be one of the best meals we had on this trip to NOLA. It's a no frills, self service type eatery. After ordering our food at the bar we sat in the bar area at a picnic table. We ordered the Uglier Platter a combination of 1/2 chicken, ribs, puled pork, for our 3 sides we ordered Jambalaya-very good, Cole Slaw-good, Fries-very good. biscuits-very good It was perfect for three adults. None of us left the table hungry. There was a bottle of their own sauce on the table if you wanted to add more to what was already on it. I wish I had bought some to bring home! Sorry! I can't remember if we paid first or after the meal. There is an inside dining area on the right and patio seating for people and families with children that may not wish to sit in the bar area.More
