My mom and I really wanted to try some alligator, so we Googled places and choose this one because it was close to a following activity we had. Our waitress was very friendly and recommend some sights to see. When we told here we never had alligator before she told us we had a choice of either fried or blackened.... More

The ambiance is old New Orleans with great zydeco music. We had the fried catfish that had very generous portions but was not really seasoned to my expectations and catfish Mulate that was covered in crawfish étouffée. The portion for the catfish Mulate was a third of the fried catfish but the taste was excellent and reflected Cajun food. We... More

The food and atmosphere was fantastic, good enough to offset the surly bartenders but not enough to offset $7.25 Yuegling draft pints.

This is one restaurant you can get not only Cajun cooking, but Arcadian or French Canadian food also. Great local atmosphere also.

Visited on our way in to town and timed it just right, early afternoon and went right in and sat down. Service and food were phenominal! Hopefully can go back before we leave!

A Cajun restaurant with a zydeco house band, dance floor and Cajun cooking. The music was a five star experience, the service average and the food average at best. But I was bound to try crawfish, frog legs and alligator and Mulates served it up. Don't go there for steak as it was grisly and tough. There are likely better... More

Our party of four made dinner reservations for Mulate's and upon arrival were promptly seated. It's a large place, casual, noisy, and fun. The menu is extensive; there's something on it to suit everyone. Being a gumbo lover, I chose the Zydeco gumbo; it was a tasty thick soup/stew of chicken, shrimp, sausage, and okra served in a bowl with... More

We chose to dine at Mulate's to enjoy some nice zydeco music and great cajun food before we called it a night. The band and people watching were great. We ordered crawfish etouffee and the crawfish sampler. The food was just ok, we've had better.

The first restaurant I walked into is this one. Was recommended by my hotel front desk. I enjoyed all of the food they presented. I enjoyed the blackened fish with the shrimp cream sauce. Good fresh onion rings for a appetizer. Enjoyed the bread pudding as well. It worked out wonderful since getting around was hard with the streets closed... More

We decided to visit Mulate's on our last night in New Orleans. We had no idea what they offered but when we walked in we knew it was our kind of place. Casual Cajun Food with a live band. Food was superb. I had the soft shell crab special which was the best soft shell crab I have ever eaten... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
