We had an early dinner at Cafe Maspero. They were fairly busy and seemed to be short staffed. Our food was just ok, service was slow. Drink service was specifically slow which is always irritating to me. Too many choices that are better for me to recommend.

Jambalaya was old and dry, not even warm. Some people in the group ordered shrimp and they were told to order something else because they had to thaw more shrimp. Do not let the 4 star average fool you, this place is a no go. The waitress was nice though.

I ordered the French onion soup and my husband had the gumbo, and we split a club sandwich. My soup was good, but too salty for me. My husband said his gumbo was just ok. The club sandwich was ok, but salty too.

Had lunch on a Friday restaurant was fairly busy so that was a good sign and it stopped there. Waiter and beer was good but the food just missed the mark. I got the gumbo and jambalaya and my wife got the white bean and fish. My gumbo was good but not much ingredients a lot of broth. Jambalaya was... More

Pedestrian fried food, tasteless, lukewarm crap! With all the great restaurants in NOLA. This place is a total waste of time and money.

I skipped the bread and just had the fish and fries. It is Red Sea bass and it was WONDERFUL! Service was good and people are friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We were not impressed with the food here. The food was pretty bland, and not at all what I expected for food in the French Quarter. The best I can say is that it was warm inside on a chilly, windy night.

Been here often before and the Cafe Maspero continues to please -- good quick fresh sandwiches -- jambalaya -- gumbos and pretty quick service to boot. Location, location, location -- right on Decatur 2 blocks from Jackson Square -- or right down the dtreet from the Natchez sternwheeler -- how convenient!

Nice place for a tasty meal with good prices. Usually pretty busy because it is popular with the locals. Good service and in a good location. My favorite here is the red beans and rice. Can't go wrong with that!!

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
