Very accommodating of our large group, and the "limited" menu was not a big concern. The menu ranged from Seafood to Steak, but all had interesting interpretations. Most of all, the proprietors were excellent hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed the visit. If you are visiting Tulane/Loyola or just staying uptown, want good food, easy access, and no hassle of going down... More

For our first meal back in New Orleans, we chose Mat & Naddie's (named for the owners' kids!)...perfect start to a visit...right on the riverbend in a glorious old house...started with a good dry rose and a big dish of spicy pecans. I had a wild mushroom roulade...Paul, their version of BBQ shrimp in the shells...both delicious...just a very nice... More

We had heard about Mat & Naddie's so decided to try it out for a Father's Day dinner. Overall, the restaurant seems like a neighborhood spot. The cozy ambiance to nice wait staff all added to this assessment. Overall, the food was good with good flavors. Everything we ordered was good - the drum, the steak, the shrimp, and the... More

We loved our visit to this neighborhood favorite - truly lovely and welcoming wooden house - patio. A smile on the door and outstanding food. We look forward to visiting again. The only reason for not giving it a 5 is that there were a couple of tiny things - the tapenade was missing from our order of cheesecake starter... More

This is one of our favorite restaurants to enjoy with our adult children. We all like to sample each other's dishes for the next time we are there. The chef is so talented and the dishes unique. The savory cheesecake appetizer is always a must order....so good!

It was a very cold night in Nola and we were forced inside. Our special whiskey cocktail was delicious but very small for $10. My husbands martini was twice the size. Our service was speedy, courteous and charming. We arrived at the same time as 2 10 person parties and made sure to order quickly. It worked. Our appetizers were... More

We met up with local cousins for a nice quiet and relaxed meal. Enjoyed the sweet and spicy pecans and Artichoke, Sun-Dried Tomato and Roasted Garlic Cheesecake to start. The veal, drum and pork chop mains were all devoured. The blueberry peach cobbler provided a fine ending.

This is not a cafe, although there is outdoor seating. It is a full fledged, but cozy little restaurant with some unusual food that mostly succeeds. We came here for a Birthday dinner (sorry no free desserts--only a free candle on an ordered dessert) and were quite pleased. Among the appetizers, the shrimp and crawfish croquettes & the artichoke, sun-dried... More

We've been visiting New Orleans for five days and have had some delicious meals, but this one was (seriously) the best of them all. Small and charming place off the beaten track, with friendly owner and waitstaff. The menu was small but featured diverse choices and highly innovative, tasty combinations. The fried banana with cashew butter and the endive-beet salad... More

We stopped here for dinner before a fun night at Rock n Bowl. Very cute atmosphere....like having dinner at someone's home. Bread was hot, crusty and fresh. Sazerac was tasty, but tiny. Oyster spinach salad was fantastic...lots of fried oysters, delicious dressing and very fresh. Egg nest was also something new and surprising. Sadly, entrees were mediocre, at best. Pappardelle... Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
