The Friday before Mardi Gras will see paid people standing in line in front of Galatoire's so that those with spare cash do not have to wait for a coveted seat in the restaurant's first floor dinning room. It's a New Orleans tradition, and my husband and I were having lunch that noon with one of the few remaining Mississippi... More

Definitely fun to imagine all those rich people walking past the strip clubs for Friday lunch in their pearls and Blazers. We dressed in business casual and were seated upstairs which I'm sure is the equivalent of "the back"; however, the service was fantastic and the upstairs level was infinitely quieter than the main dining room. Perhaps do the same... More

Galatoire's is a very old world, classic southern, French eatery. The duck crepe was excellent. The crab entree was very good. The dessert was pretty good. Service was good. The setting is very bright. It is a bit of an oasis on Bourbon Street. I would recommend. I will return.

We made a reservation weeks in advance for this restaurant and we still only had a few time slots to choose from. This is an extremely fancy and sophisticated restaurant. Men need to wear a suit jacket to get in after 5 PM and on Sundays. I recommend their escargot as well as any of this dishes with crab.

Galatoire's came with high recommendations, but we didn't experience that. Our experience was quite mediocre. The server had to come back 3 times before she brought the right wine. The turtle soup was very good, but the entrees and desserts we really not worth the money. We spent as much as we did at Commander's Palace and had food easily... More

Old world charm and great food describe this restaurant best. We had made reservations weeks before coming just to be sure. We thought it was funny to read all of the negative reviews as people must really not understand what a traditional fine dining experience really is. No it's not the creme de la creme but it is definitely worth... More

This restaurant had excellent service and quality of food. The chefs cooked my meal to perfection. All steakhouses have similar menus, but the quality and service at Galatoire's is definetely something that sets them apart from others.

It was lump crab season so we had appetizers and entrees with lump crab - food was very good but our waiter was lazy and disinterested in our table

Galatoire's was recommended by the local lady who sat beside us on the flight from London. Amazing recommendation. You can feel the tradition and elegance as soon as you come in. Gents they do expect a jacket if you are going for dinner. The bread was amazing and being a fish fan it was great to try new dishes exquisitely... More

I love the old, authentic restaurants in NOLA and had not yet been to Galatoire’s, so we decided to try it on our recent trip. I think I’m in the minority, but I did not care for it much at all. The atmosphere reminded me of a school cafeteria for some reason. Tile floor which made the noise level a... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
