The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Restaurant August offers fine dining (great service, interesting food, beautiful surroundings). Lighting is very dim and service, while excellent, is a little to "stiff". The food presentation is interesting beautiful. The taste and flavor of the food is excellent but portions are small but the...wine list is extensive and not over priced.More

So my wife and I decided to visit New Orleans for several days and try their culinary places. We ate at the Ritz, Omni, Windsor Court, Galatoire, and a couple others not worth mentioning. This was an easy win. Food, wine, service, ambiance - had...them all. The chef uses local items which we always love. The sommelier was spot on. I do recommend the tasting menu with wine accompaniment. My wife is a vegetarian and they custom matched hers with mine perfectly. The drinks were also quite good with awesome presentation. We only had one because with all that wine, it would have been too much. I did like that they were not stingy with their pours. You could ask any of the servers for anything. Even the bread was fresh and wonderful that they brought out for us. I love when the chef sends you a complementary small taste before you start. If we ever go back to New Orleans, this place will be a must. I do have one other recommendation. Try the muffulettas for lunch at Central Grocery. It's where they invented them. They did a vegetarian one for my wife too. They were both awesome.More

This is a great date night restaurant. Food is great with good presentation. Service is excellent and unobtrusive. Ambiance is complementary to a great dinner. One of the best restaurant in New Orleans

The first thing that caught my eye entering the restaurant was the crystal chandeliers that float above the dining room. They add to the elegant atmosphere that is apparent throughout the space. I could not help but let my eyes wander throughout the restaurant during...my meal to admire the beauty. I started off my meal with the foie gras, which met my expectations. It was paired with a citrus purée that added to the overall flavor of the dish. They provided a crispy brioche bread for the foie gras which was extremely delicious. Next, I ordered the gnocchi with black truffles. I cannot begin to describe this dish. It was by far my favorite part of the experience. For my main course, I decided on the lamb which was accompanied by squash and other "fall flavored" vegetables. I found the lamb cooked to my liking and the vegetables paired well with it. My only critique comes from other members of my party. They found their steak a little tough but explained that the flavor was still pleasant. The strawberry shortcake I had for dessert was good. I appreciated how we were provided with complimentary pralines at the end of our meal. Being one of my favorite treats, these did not disappoint. We found our servers to be highly helpful and pleasant.More

The restaurant August looks so elegant and appealing with its high brick walls and chandeliers. The service was top as well; the food was good, though clearly on the pricey side: 4 courses are about $ 130. Turtle soup and fois gras were good, egg...with truffles very good, hanger steak and duck breast both quite good, though not very innovative. The deserts Citrus Meringue Tart and Pumpkin mousse were ok.More

Yup, this is a really solid restaurant.  In fact, it's sterling.  Try the Foie Gras which is done four different ways and it was distinctive.  The other killer dish was the breaded trout.  Honestly, this was so tasty.  I don't normally order fish but the...wait staff told us it's special and they were right.  Also, the restaurant was so charming.  I'm from out of town and I still am stunned at how alluring the restaurants are in New Orleans. While this is clearly a marvelous restaurant, our top choice was R'evolution between the two.  The food was a tad more local and authentic (August makes a bigger attempt at artistry and being elegant) and while the waiters are kind and highly professional, they could lighten up a tad to be more welcoming and local. It was entertaining that we ate next to the Alabama men's golf team (no payment problems with this group) who had just destroyed the field at Vandy’s tournament. This is a tremendous restaurant.  You'll have a convivial time in an appealing place of character.More

I've been to August before so I knew this was not going to be cheap. But after four months of quarantining here in the city I needed to get out and come down and splurge a little. I did the four course pris fixe menu...and I got the veal chop. Everything was exquisite. Except the veal chop. It was grissly and very hard to cut. But the tomato beet salad, the bisque, and the dessert made it totally worth the price. Impeccable service. If you need a splurge you can't go wrong coming here.More

We live in a foodie city (Santa Fe) and are fairly hard to impress I’m afraid. Unlike many nice restaurants where the prices are so outrageous it’s impossible for the meal to live up to expectations - the degustación menu was $98 and worth every...penny. From the amuse bouche to dessert - everything was perfect. I would go back here in a heartbeat. Especially nice dining room and the service was exemplary.More

Make a reservation. Wonderful for a special occasion or a romantic dinner. For one spectacular dinner in New Orleasn this is the place. Start with a cocktail, Order a bottle of wine from their amazing cellar. The menu is very french and limited but made...with the freshest and finest ingredients. They bring anice mousse starter compliments of the chef. The Truffle Gnocchi is a must. We tried two apps and two mains. they were rich and filling. ave room for the orange desert.More

Inform them when you make your reservation. They completely accommodated my gluten allergy. They may need advance notice, however.
