Brigsten's restaurant is in an historic former home in the Riverbend area. I would urge any visitors to take the Charles St tram out here. As a Brit, I was unsure what the area would be like. It's a nice, well-heeled leafy suburb. Mrs Brigsten met us on arrival. This is a friendly business run by a family and you... More

If you only have time for one dinner in New Orleans, Brigtsen's should be at the top of the list. A James Beard award winning Chef in 1992, Frank Brigtsen learned from Chef Paul Prudhomme. His menu changes daily. During crawfish season, you must get the Crawfish Bisque. His Roast Duck is a great non-seafood entree. The Pan Fried Speckled... More

It was such a pleasant feeling to walk into the charming little white house in an actual neighborhood and be greeted by Chef Brigtsen himself. We were seated in a small room of the house and provided with perfect attention throughout our meal. The walls are adorned with lovely, peaceful art pieces. I started with the Corn and Crawfish Soup... More

Our meal was so delicious I would like to eat there every night. Just run through the menu and I know I would not leave there with out a smile on my face.

Brigtsen's is a venerable New Orleans restaurant that serves classic Louisiana cuisine in an old house out from the main tourist haunts. Like every restaurant that started in a (quaint, old, victorian, fill-in-the-blank.) home years ago, Brigtsen's feels both charming and tired— like an old home place that family members remember fondly, yet don't want to live in now. Brigtsen's... More

Although a little out of the way, it is worth the drive for and lovely evening of wonderful food and nice wine. The welcoming is as you were visiting one's home in a quaint neighborhood. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent.

My husband and I and a friend ate here last weekend. We had not eaten here in 20 years. We were asking ourselves , "why not???" The restaurant is adorable. It is in an old house with tablecloths with NO paper on top. We HATE that! Anyway, our main wait person was Pat. She was superb. However, everyone chips in... More

This is an old line New Orleans classic runs by the same family for years. It is located in an old house in what is mainly a residential neighborhood. The food is fresh and the service good. That said, the restaurant is a $30 cab ride from mid town. The food, though decent, is rich, and the menu traditional. You... More

Food and service are outstanding and the ambiance is perfect for date night. The chef has an extensive background in cooking at some of the City's best known restaurants and his menu here does not disappoint. Specials are consistently delicious and do not disappoint.

I cannot talk about the New Orleans experience without talking about this restaurant. This is one of my favorite "splurge and treat myself" restaurants that I love to visit. It's as if you're walking into a dining room in someone's house, and that person treats you like royalty and feeds you food so good, you don't want to stop eating.... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
