As the saying goes, you could probably throw a rock from any street corner in New Orleans and hit a decent-to-good po-boy shop. There were a couple near our hotel in the Garden District that I had intended to check out. However, our travels happened to take us out to Freret Street when hunger struck and we decided to give... Having been on the road for a while, finding this spot was a real treasure. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The sand which itself was too good for words. The roast beef melted in my mouth and perfectly accompanied by the French roll and its toppings. I would definitely make a stop here if in the area.

We stumbled upon this neighborhood joint near our rental property. They had great breakfast options and variety. Service was friendly and quick. Food portions are average with the exception of the large pancakes. If your with a bigger group, seating can be limited. Would have loved to try a donut but by time we arrived (10am), there was not many... More

I eat gumbo and potato salad wherever I can, and in New Orleans that's a lot of places. This one is definitely one of the best. I brought my children there for donuts, but when I saw the menu I had to get some gumbo and potato salad for myself. Well, I loved it but my kids ate most of... More

I read a review of the commercial strip where the shop is located. It was an easy bus ride on the 15 Freret line in the Garden District toward Tulane. The shop reminds me of neighborhood donut shops I used to frequent but have become hard to find. It was a pleasant experience for a mid-morning breakfast and I would... More

Saw this place advertised, so decided to try this for a quick lunch. Found this a little hard to get to... Road construction and street closing a make this place hard to get to, but was well worth the detours. The food is very authentic "New Orleans" style. Very nice and accommodating folks. Daily specials noted. The red beans and... More

I reviewed this little corner place about 5 years ago, and it just keeps getting better and better. I haven't tried one of the donuts yet, although they look really yummy. Their shrimp po-boys are just so darn delicious, and their red beans/rice is wonderful as well. They didn't have the macaroni and cheese the last time we were there,... More

On a bike ride to Audubon Park, the Man Friend and I decided to swing by for breakfast. We split one of the MASSIVE honey buns and each got a breakfast item...I opted for the sausage biscuit (of which I managed to eat half) and he got the egg & bacon sandwich. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly,... More

This place is amazing. It's no pretentious, delicious and a slice of local life. I had a Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a donut and still can't stop thinking about it. Not worth a trip on its own but if you're nearby stop in.

We drove a ways to this neighborhood place and we were so glad we did. It has a few tables but it is more of a takeout place. We enjoyed the fried chicken, beans and rice, a huge salad, and the garlic beef po boy. All very tasty. The Mac n cheese was cheesy spaghetti, so a little disappointing. Everyone... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
