Wife and I had our last dinner during French Quarter Fest at this disappointing restaurant. Terribly noisy room, crowded and uncomfortable. Altogether, no ambiance at all. I ordered a burger medium rare, but it arrived medium well. The fries were ordinary at best. I've had better fries at a fast food dive. Wife enjoyed the scallops. Could not wait to... More

One of our favorites when visiting NOLA. Charming cozy restaurant and our first time on the patio was even lovelier. Great food with a varied menu. Not overly pretentious but creative. Nice servers and outstanding cocktails.

I was so excited to eat in New Orleans after being here many times 10+ years ago and have struggled to find anything to write home about until we went to Sylvain last night! Hallelujah!!!! This place is amazing. Small and dark it already beats so many of the highly rated long term New Orleans establishments. Great cocktail menu with... More

We walked into Sylvain without a dinner reservation and after a short wait were seated at a quiet outside table in the back patio which was perfect for four of us. The food and service were equal to the atmosphere and I'd definitely eat there again.

Every dish from the crudo to the beef cheeks is a joy to experience. I did a lot of happy grunting. The courtyard is tucked away and is more reminiscent of a private backyard then a restaurant, which is great. The entire staff is excellent and full of informed recommendations as well as smiles. You will leave with a full... More

Our dinner at Sylvain was amazing! The courtyard is gorgeous and tucked away, which felt like a welcome respite from the busy area. Our server was sweet, knowledgeable and so kind, she made excellent suggestions and pairings. Finally, the food was on point. We tried all the fish specials and they were out of this world. A bright, yet still... More

Food and atmosphere was great. Wish I could see my food. So dark. I couldn't see my tasty food. Great location.

What a fun and festive night we had after the French Quarter Festival's final performance. Our party of 5 were very well treated by the helpful staff who ensured a cozy table outside in the back courtyard. The food is very tasty and reasonably priced. The other patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves too and were very friendly. That's the... More

Really enjoyed brunch at Sylvain. Coosa Valley grits and large portions are a fave! The bartender loves discussing drink making.

We did not have a very good experience. We came late at the end of a very busy night, and although we had reservations we were seated in an area that was so dark that even with the tiny candles we couldn't read the menu. Our server was unenthusiastic, and the music was playing so loud we couldn't talk. The... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
