We love frequenting the "off the beaten path" types of places when we are in NOLA, and Cake qualifies. We were searching for a place to grab breakfast on the way out of town and stumbled across Cake. It's a sleepy little place plopped down in a quite neighborhood. We walked in, ordered breakfast, and fell in love! I got... More

Another Bywater jewel. My wife found out about this place and we decided to try it out for brunch. I love the ambiance of this place and the neighborhood is beautiful and lively so we decided to sit outside. I ordered the Catfish and Grits which was delicious and a Strawberry Lemonade which was so freakin good. My wife loved... More

This is a bit out of the way over in the Marigny District, but so worth the walk. The streets going over from the French Quarter are filled with classic New Orleans houses that could be the highlight. But then, you arrive at Cake Cafe and it is usually crowded. Settle in, wait for a table and enjoy the best... More

Wandered over to Cake Cafe and Bakery in the heart of Faubourg-Marigny for a late breakfast/early brunch. Great selection, delicious food, nice ambience. Highly recommend.

I was convinced that Surrey's Juice Bar was the best breakfast in the city for years...until I came to this place. The Boudin and Grits and Corned Beef Hash were out of this world. The ice coffee was great and it may be the best iced green tea ice ever had. The biscuits are terrific and make sure to get... More

The best breakfast we had in NOLA, everything was so amazing! I had a ham and cheese omelet with cheddar cheese grits, my boyfriend had the crab, brie and spinach omelet with goat cheese grits and we each had a biscuit with gravy which was the best I've ever had. I'd be there all the time if I was a... More

Recommended by our B&B hosts as their second B was inoperable at the time. Very casual breakfast spot with many local patrons. Excellent pastry. Walls covered with posters for entertainment opportunities as well as neighborhood activities and causes. Staff makes you feel at home.

Glad someone living in N.O. told us about this place. The breakfast was outstanding. A friendly, laid back establishment with righteous food. You want to try this place for sure!

Wonderful omelette, the shrimp and grits good, but loved the omelette more. Weekday breakfast with no line.... perfect after a couple mile run. Now stranded due to rain, so enjoying the iced coffee and lingering with good company and the possibility of a cup cake nearby.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
