If we're in the French Quarter, we'll be stopping at the du Monde. For snacking, resting, watching, or waiting on connecting with others...it's the place to go.

Check this is off the bucket list and I am adding more boxes to check, so I can return. In and out, we had plans, quick, efficient and delicious!!

You'd go to Times Square in NYC or take a trolley car in San Francisco. If in New Orleans you go to cafe du monde. It has a great view of Jackson square and it's on the Mississippi (can't see the river due to levee). The place has been around for almost two hundred years.

A must for new time visitors to New Orleans. Very busy place but fast service. Beignets are very good but be prepared for lots of powder sugar to get all over your clothes. We were told by some of the locals that there are better beignets in other bakeries or restaurants, but we would not know since only had the... More

Stopped here after dinner for some local dessert. The place is quaint with some seating inside. The coffee and beneigts (sp) were excellent. The service was fine, not friendly, not rude. Overall it was a nice place to finish the evening.

Being celiac I was unable to try the beignets. However I can unequivocally state that the coffee is still excellent and I have eaten the wonderful beignets here in the past before my sentence to gluten free existence. My friends found the beignets excellent as well.

You have not experienced New Orleans until you have had an order or two of beignets and coffee. I normally eat Paleo, but a tradition is tradition!

I heard so much about this place. I'm not too fond of beignets BUT the experience was nice and the service was quick. I'd definitely go back. The view was nice. It's really close to the French market and directly across the street from Jackson Square. It's the perfect location and I highly recommend visiting when in town.

Cafe Du Monde is worth everything. Their pastry is worth the walk. When you bite into them it makes you feel like you have reached your sweet place in pastry heaven.

You don't get to be a NOLA institution without a top notch product and the Cafe Du Monde does not disappoint! Find a nice table with a view of Jackson Square in the evening and watch the sunset and people watch while enjoying the best beignets in NOLA!

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
