We stumbled upon Ancient People on our way back from the beach at San Juanillo. How thrilled we were to find they will serve breakfast all day. We started with fresh ginger lemonade, fresh brewed iced tea, and homemade kombucha. Everything was so delicious. Two...of us samples breakfast - gallo pinto and breakfast burrito. I had the falafel and the boys ate hamburgers. Go figure. Everything is so lovingly made. I ate every single bite. The ambiance is wonderful in the garden setting and you'd never know it's right on the main road. We even had the sweet company of three little dog friends. Great spot! We'd go back.More

We stopped in for lunch after spending time at the beach and were not disappointed. The tacos were amazing and the guacamole was to die for. The best part was the fresh, homemade potato chips that they fried right there. We ate the entire bowl...and wanted more. If you are in this area don’t miss out in stopping in. It will be well worth it.More

My wife and I had two breakfasts that were tasty and very good value. Try the iced coffee and breakfast burritos. The owner is a nice, soft-spoken man (his dogs and cats are awesome dining companions, too) and the atmosphere is peaceful and clean. Really...enjoyed this restaurant.More

Eat breakfast or lunch here. We liked it and had all our lunches here and it was packed everyday. Pity that they do not do dinners as well.

Owner was so rude. He was a jerk to my 5 year old son. We went there because of the reviews, but left disappointed.

...when I saw it on a sign on the way to the beach, so I had to stop here. Food selection is largely mediterranean: falafel, kofta wraps were the first to grab my eye as a light late lunch. The setting is beautiful: outdoors, airy,...full of Costa Rican wood, tables set among the trees. If there is an indoor space I didn't see it: pulled in at 3:30 direct from the beach and they close at 4! Only a quick trip but very impressive. I ordered the kufta wrap and, when it arrived, was quite sure it would be far too much for the 'light' meal I was seeking. The waiter, a lovely man whose name I have unfortunately lost, bet me that, once I tasted it especially with the supplied hot sauce, I would love it so much it would be gone before I knew it! Well, of course he won that bet hands down. The beef was brilliant, cut into chunks from what may have originally been meatballs, seared on the outside pieces and very flavorful throughout. The hot sauce was a nice touch, but slightly too much for me so I foreswore after the first two bites. The ginger lemonade was a surprise: heavily gingered but unsweetened. I considered asking for some sugar to bring it up to what I might ordinarily consider an 'ade', but finally decided that it's astringency would be a fitting accompaniment to the wrap. If you couldn't tell, all was thoughtfully crafted and delicious. I will gladly brave that horrible road from Sámara on my next Guanacaste trip, for the beautiful gem of a beach for sure, but also to get more time with the people and food of Ancient People!More

I had a good kofta wrap and my wife had chicken tacos. Both delicious. Nice place for a visit. Their breakfast burrito looked good.

Just so you know there are not a lot spot around San Juanillo to eat. We stopped here as the first option we found. A very nice and relaxed spot owned by an friendly Egyptian that enjoys living in Costa Rica. We arrived in the...morning and had breakfast. A couple friends ordered the option with Gallo pinto and they liked it a lot. I got the omelette (toppings like mushrooms, egg and bacon are not included so you hace to order them as extras) on toast with lettuce and tomato and I really liked it. They make their own hot sauce and it's quite nice, not very hot but adds flavor. For drinking I ordered an iced cold coffee which was quite good (they use an espresso machine to brew it). The owner swears he make great falafel so we are looking forward to come back for lunchMore

I never order casado which is a traditional Costa Rican dish. I decided to try it today at Ancient People because everything is so delicious there! This was out of this world. Sea Bass that melted in your mouth like butter. The rice and beans...were the most delish I have ever tasted and the fried planaines were divine. I had a fresh watermelon smoothie. Perfect pit stop before the beach. Omg. The best! The people that own and run the place are the best as well. This place is not to be missed!More
