One of my favourite bars anywhere

I loved this pub! Have been to a decent few bars all around the world, haven't liked many places as much as this one. Visited here with my dad and brother in May 2018. To me it's a lot more authentic than many other 'Irish' pubs around the world. Instead of neon shamrocks and Guinness posters all over the joint, there are portraits of musicians. And more importantly, the vibe is friendly - staff are great and it's got an atmosphere where customers feel like they can strike up conversation with each other. No TVs :) Fantastic blues and rock music at all times. They stay open late. Didn't try the food, but there's a good selection of Irish and Scotch whiskeys. And Neil the proprietor is a great man for a chat! Proper craic all round.

There is a very Good vibe! This is an excellent Place for meeting people. Give you a home feeling and having fun love the place. If you are in kampot, you have to pass there to feel the real life in kampot! The staff are cool! And have a drink with the owner!

Fantastic Pub . Doesn't look like an Irish bar but has the same warm feeling . Lots of interesting people go there , mainly expats I think . I went with a mate who lives there , great music .

Run by an absolute legend, by far the best place to have a drink and listen to good music in Kampot!

I visit Cambodia each year and no trip is fulfilled without a trip to Oh Neil's in Kampot. The owner is one of the nicest and most interesting people you could meet. You will always find a cold beer, good conversation and awesome tunes on the sound system as standard. They also do slick homemade food!

Old school Irish dive bar

If you're looking for a spot to have a few beers and fall in with the locals then look no further, good music and atmosphere with a few regulars propping up the bar- just like it should be. Staff were all friendly and chatty and Neil the old school owner will give you a good laugh.

Great Bar

More of an expats/locals bar than the best choice for tourists. Though I'm sure some travelers would enjoy it too. From an expats point of view Oh Neil's is damn near perfect. Friendly staff, a good selection of locals and expats (mostly expats - both male and female), late opening hours, a nice long bar to prop up, a relaxed approach to the consumption of combustibles, plenty of local knowledge, banter and relaxed conversation. A particular mention to the barman/manager, Orian, who does a great job of keeping everyone happy. Note that the location on TripAdvisor is slightly wrong (why the hell can't TripAdvisor and Google get Cambodian locations right?). Oh Neil's is on the Riverside on the block just North of Rikkitikitavi. Not down the side street TripAdvisor shows it on.

Irish Bar? You're having a laugh!

Food was mediocre to the point of defining what mediocre is. This place claims to be an Irish bar but it isnt. One tattered old Irish Flag and two cheesy leprachaun hats doesnt make it Irish. No atmosphere, no friendliness (did not welcome us or say goodbye). One star is a kindness.

Hi There,RoryMaxiPablo, Thanks for taking the time to write your first and only review of Oh Neil's. There are a couple of issues you raised.the outstanding one being mediocre food...May I enquire as to which dish you had,if it was not to your liking I'll certainly have a word with the chef. The "old and tattered" Irish flag you mentioned is neither old nor tattered and is washed and ironed every few weeks.I will happily provide photo/video evidence to show you,posting pics or vids is not available to me on this response forum. I'd also like the name or description of the member of staff who failed to greet you or say goodbye,as almost no one enters or leaves the bar without human interaction. You might also note that in most cases the reviews express completely opposing views to those selected by your good self. I hope you can make time to address the issues mentioned above,we always want to make peoples experience at Oh Neil's a special one, Best regards,Neil

This was one of my favorite bars in Kampot during my three-month stay. Awesome location, great and very friendly owner. If you spend some time in Kampot you should definitely visit this great bar!

Best bar in the world?

I rate Oh Neills as one of best bars in the world. And I have ben to a few. Nothing fancy, but rating relates to conviviality, everyone talks to each other, which to me is number 1. Excellent conversations every night I went, lovely people, and of course Neill who is passionate about all kinds of things. Lovely friendly staff, drinks at standard Kampot prices, open as late as there is a crowd. Liked the music very much too.

Went for a drink. Tired and not particularly clean. Lady pleasant enough but nothing here to make me think about staying. Wouldn't dream of eating here. Owner Blitzed thru while I was there and didn't think to say hi to his two customer's.

Hi Allan, After your comments re cleanliness we mustered the entire crew and pulled the whole place apart,even dismantling the fans...The wet season can be hard on the place.Sorry for dashing through without a greeting or acknowledgement,must have been something pressing ...The food is actually pretty good,as testified by many of the reviews on here...As for the "lady"being merely pleasant,perhaps she was having an off day....or perhaps you didn't excite her intellectually...I'll have a word...You'll maybe enjoy it next time. Best watering hole in town

As a night owl in a city that goes to sleep not long after sunset, it can be really difficult to find a place to imbibe alcohol, engage in friendly conversation and soak up classic rock music. Oh Neil's is that one after hours place that provides almost everything you need, including 420 friendly atmosphere one needs to get them through the midnight. I would say my only complaint is that the kitchen closes, relatively speaking, early and there is always a high turnover concerning the person in charge of the cooking. The bathroom could do with a really deep scrubbing, but other than that it is more often than not clean. This is handsdown one of the best places to knock down a cold one, light up a hand-rolled cigarette, and enjoy lively music under the din and chatter of expats and tourists alike. The high-set bar itself is very thoughtfully designed, so whether you sit or stand you're more-or-less the same height as your compatriots sitting at either side of you. They glued coinage from the far corners of the world to the bar-top for curious conversation and interesting eye candy. They almost never-ever play rap or hiphop which is absolutely awesome to escape that mainstream garbage, but instead they play timeless music that has stood the test of time, and even play some exotic world cafe music from parts of the world I have never experienced. This smoky bar is a classic divebar in the truest sense, and that's what makes it so special. Moreover, the drinks are reasonably priced and seldom is the place empty.

Not as Irish as we thought it to be

Admit, the bar itself was decorated very well with tons of coins glued to the top. Yet, the posters and pictures on the walls did not much remind us of an Irish bar. And the staff having difficulty remembering the different beers on tap (Anchor as far as we could find out) was quite a surprise, though staff didn't seem to be new!? Maybe had a bit of happy pizza from the neighbour place? ;-)

Hi BaOzi, Sure appreciate your observations....And sorry for the slow response...We go full on Irish on St. Patrick's day,even providing free food for whoever walks in the door,and have done for the last 6 years,that's what we call Irish Hospitality,but being Irish is not all about leprechauns and diddly eye music...Did you notice the pics of dead and living Irish artists on the walls?...The incomparable Rory Gallagher,Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy,Shane McGowan,Van Morrison?...the bar is home to the spiiri of these great Irishmen,and many other musical icons...The girl behind the bar was with us for only a very short time,and it wasn't just happy pizza... best wishes,Neil and crew

Bar with the best craic in Kampot

I stayed in Kampot for about 3 weeks and found myself in this bar most nights I wanted a few beers. Perfect for a quite beer in the evening but really comes alive at night and into the early hours. An amazing selection of whiskeys, Cambodia draft on tap and some nice craft brews and stouts in can and bottle, just ask the staff. The music is mostly blues, funk and rock. The walls are covered with pictures of all the greats: Jimmy Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Ray Charles etc etc. The staff are very friendly and I found it easy to 'spark up' a conversation with other people at the bar. I think the beauty of this spot is the mix of young and old, ex-pats and travellers, and the mix of nationalities. Despite being an Irish bar you will bump into people from all over the world. Highly recommend calling by for a drink. Another major plus is the quality of staff. They are very friendly and helpful, always smiling and you don't have to wait long to get served. Perfect!

Great place, and now has rooms

When we saw the view from the roof, we had to stay! Neil is great, so nice, and has lots of information about Kampot. The bar is famous, sunset incredible, but now you can stay there as well. Highly recommended! You'll want to stay in Kampot a few days at least. Wish we'd stayed longer.
