Yzerfontein is perched on top of a rocky outcrop sticking out into the Atlantic. The views out over the cliffs are spectacular, and some of the restaurants there abuse this - they offer great views, but don't bother with the food or service, and charge a fortune for the privilege. Kaijaiki's is totally different. It's set back 2 blocks from... More

The Dutch owner of the place is also the chef and is a great raconteur. He likes to engage with all his guests before retreating to his kitchen to cook your food. His wife also plays her part and bakes some of the deserts - her apple strudel being especially good.

Hi Philip, thank you for taking the time to write a review. Yes, that sounds like my husband, the Hollander, Rene. My apple strudel is well loved at Kaijaiki Country Inn. I'm Mary Ann, by the way. More

We stayed here for 1 night. We had a Good evening meal but owner in a rush to close which rather spoilt the evening,The bedroom was fairly comfortable but we found that breakfast was very poor with little choice, the owner grudgingly produced some muesli with some berries thrown on top. We were only offered 1 cup of coffee, all in... More

My sincere apologies for your experience at Kaijaiki Country Inn. I could ask you questions eg the guest room being fairly comfortable, etc, but would not turn time back will it? Mary Ann Bosch Baldinger - Owner of Kaijaiki Country Inn More

Our wedding was scheduled at a nearby wedding venue for the Saturday. We needed a place to host dinner the night before for roughly 40 people. Kaijaikie at a push can fit 40 people. Mary-Ann and her team (4 people) did an amazing job of simultaneously cooking and caring for all our guests. Everyone ate together and the food was... More

Tracy, thank you for your lovely review. The saying goes "It takes two to tango" Although we did the work, we enjoyed your company and was energized, and not drained, by hosting your supper. You were friendly, complimentary and helpful. And therefor a big thank you to all of you who attended the supper. More

It felt as if we were in an overseas restaurant. The place is cosy and the decor is interesting. The owner, Dutch, is very pleasant and entertaining with his 'stories'. We were a company of 6 and thoroughly enjoyed the evening: excellent, service, good food and the owner, who served us, made it an evening to remember. When I visit... More

We are not locals and we struggled to locate the Restaurant in the dark. We found that the entrance is located at the back of the building and it looked like the entrance to a private house. The food was very tasty and well prepared good service and atmosphere. I had sole (R178) and Almond tart for dessert for which... More

Thank you for your review, Irene. Where were you staying in Yzerfontein? Did the hosts not give clear directions to Kaijaiki? Our name is Kaijaiki, derived from the Xhosa word meaning small humble dwelling (therefore you could have got the impression that it's a private home) The price of the sole is R172. If we overcharged, please let me have... More

Booked and paid a deposit. Arrived to find no one but a note on the door saying one of the rooms was ours. Not only was there no body to greet us, but the establishment did not really look like the photographs on the internet. We left to tour Yzerfontein only to find that there are no restaurants open in... More

We had a great evening out, good company and great wine from Ormonde. The owner is a great character, perhaps overly so, but the atmosphere, food etc. is very good. His Bitterbalen was exceptional!
