This is an odd little restaurant in Williamsburg that has been there "forever." The lunch menu basic: coffee black or white, chicken sandwich, pork pulled sandwich, an egg dish and not much else. Cappuccino? Go next door to the coffee shop owned by the same...owner of Diner and get it yourself. So much for service. The food, however was good. The coffee next door was quite good. Service was mixed. If the ENTIRE party has not arrived you must wait on the sidewalk. The waitress, however was pleasant.More

I was looking for a place for brunch close to a friends new apartment by Domino Park and selected Diner because of all the great reviews I had read in NYT, Infatuation, etc. and the fact that they accepted reservations. The 5 of us arrived...about 15 minutes before our reservation and understandably were told it would be a few minutes. It was a very hot day, so we went across the street to stay in the shade under the awning of a hardware store. We inquired a few minutes after our reservation time and were once again told a few minutes. We could see the only table that could accommodate us outside and they were just lingering after paying the bill. To make a long story short...neither the hostess or waitress made any attempt to make them vacate the table and we ultimately sat down 35 minutes after our 1pm time. After that, no apology and nothing was done to make up for the long delay in being seated. The service was slow, the food good (even though it was a limited brunch menu), and it was overpriced for what we received. Too bad Diner because my friend eats out a lot and always looks for a neighborhood spot to call her own and it is not going to be Diner. We tried Rabbit Hole next look for that review!!More

Food was excellent, great burger.. Service was good too but a little bit on the expensive side, and very crammed inside. Its a small venue and they cram alot of people in. Had to wait almost an hour for a table.

Phenomenal brunch! Perfect Bloody Mary and Mimosa! The staff is awesome and friendly. The food was a 10! Nothing was done over the top, just perfectly. French toast is killer. Yum!

We had a wonderful meal at the Diner. A friend and I shared Grilled romaine as appetizer and stuffed cabbage with lamb. Great glasses of wine paired with each suggested by the sommelier, Chess. Service was great.

We went on a warm evening so the setting was really beautiful, in an old diner car with open doors and a laid back atmosphere. The food is quite expensive (as others have said) but you can tell that this is based on the quality...of the ingredients they use. When I was in I heard the fishmonger come in personally to talk about what he'd have available the following week. I had a really beautiful dish of spaetzle with ricotta, which was divine - truly amazing flavours. I'm still thinking about it days later. Nice beer and friendly staff.More

Edgy and grungy are the words to describe this restaurant. This feeling was made strongest when our friendly waitress ad lib scribbled down the menu on our paper tablecloth (they have no permanent menu- they concoct new dishes everyday). The concept is cool. the food...is pretty decent. It's just those prices man. If inflation hasn't hit the USA, it most certainly has hit this one Williamsburg diner and the Fed better hope it doesn't spread. I would not say the food I had was worth $30 (I had 2 poached eggs on a bed of lentils....) (cost=$5 max) (student home meal)More

This place is a Williamsburg institution, and it's easy to see why. The surrounding neighborhood is loaded with talented young people with stars in their eyes. They hang around, working temp jobs while playing in a band or going to auditions, then, after a few...years they figure out how to get on with life. Diner offers an oasis to those who are community-starved. The service is ultra-friendly, the menu is hand-written on the paper tablecloth, and the food is hearty and, above all, comfortable. (The prices, however, are Brooklyn, but that's a different issue.) For at least one evening, it feels like home. Best of all, when you come back to Williamsburg to show your kids where you lived right after college, Diner will probably still be there serving those heaping portions of warm memories.More

The classic Southside Williamsburg spot that pioneered New American hipsterdom in Brooklyn continues to turn out high quality food. Consistency is king at here and of course a healthy sprinkling of cool from the retro boxcar/diner vibes to the hand written special on your table....Solid burger, good drinks and the ever-changing daily menu will have something for all to enjoy.More
