Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On a busy Father's Day, I visited here for a seafood bite before seeing a play at the nearby maritime museum. It was busy but I found a seat at the bar. I had a refreshing cucumber margarita ---quite different, and very good, followed by...deep fried lobster tail (interesting, but too much work to really enjoy). The view of the busy water traffic was a real treat, especially since I'd gotten to Red Hook via the free weekend ferry service to the nearby Ikea. And the Statue of Liberty held faraway court over the whole vista. Being from California (and a long time aficionado of the Florida Keys), I appreciated the shore themed decor, complete with a sandy volleyball court and artificial palm trees. Truly a fine beach setting, in deepest Brooklyn.More

No public subway to this location - requires a car hire. Wonderful open air deck with fresh night breezes, welcome after the 95 degree heat of day. Friendly, affable servers. But the food is overcooked and very costly. Five of us - ordered peel and...eat shrimp, the lobster pot, the crab pot and the shrimp and crayfish pot. All of it was tasty, but way overcooked - to the point of sogginess. I don't get the point of crayfish. The amount of meat is the size of a housefly. And so overcooked that it is pure mush.More

We had a great time at Brooklyn Crab, not only was the crab delicious but they have family friendly activities while you wait, corn hole, mini golf and a sandpit, the kids had a lot of fun just running around. The bar is active but...surprisingly fast with the drinks, and the crab is delicious. The dungeness crab is a much better deal than the snow crab, and if you go near sunset you'll be rewarded with an amazing view of Lady Liberty.More

We got lucky with the best waitress at Brooklyn Crab, Amber. She was such a pleasure and was honest about what to order and how much the Brooklyn crab royale would feed, preventing us from over ordering. The food was so good and we had...a great time, in a gorgeous atmosphere over looking the water. We’ll be back!More

Best crab ever. This is my favorite restaurant in all of NY, and one of the reasons why tourists need to know Manhattan is only the beginning or just one more borough in a city full of surprises and offering. Red Hook is probably the...hippest neighborhood, whether you want unique food, or visit art spaces, bars with folk music, or just enjoy the views from one of the docks, it captures what NY is all about. So now that we defined location, and why coming to Brooklyn Crab is about the experience before and after your meal, walking around this fantastic area, let me tell you about the food. Crab is as good as anywhere else, you have the option to order fresh crab of several types, as well as other seafood. Laid back, with amazing views of the statues of liberty, I suggest coming here at sunset. Drink a draft beer, enjoy the fries and the corn on the cob, wear your bib, grab those clamps, and go for the crab.More

Great customer service. Yummy Blue Crab roll and excellent macaroni and cheese side dish. I recommend the margaritas.

Great design for seafood spot; food is overpriced but given Brooklyn real estate I'm sure they have to charge what they do. Went in the February so there was no crowd. Our group loved the slaw: I had the snow crab roll sans the bread--they...gave it in a lettuce wrap. The oysters were also good. I wouldn't return in the summer if there were lines and a wait to get in. When the weather is warm people who don't like stairs should opt for the lowest levels possible.More

Understand first that you will be walking up 2 flights of stairs to get to the dining area. You are surrounded by beach front cheap seating. Reaching behind, you will find various open hot sauce bottles generously lubricated by countless other patrons before you. We...ordered the popcorn shrimp and a few came in paper, mildly seasoned. Mussels were OK with some sauce at the bottle of the paper. The oysters (St. Simon) were excellent. Crab cakes tasty much fishier than expected. The hazelnut flute was also quite good. Adding a can of cider brought the Lunch cost to $136 including a tip. This was not a $100+ meal. A bit of a shocker therefore this review to warn future diners. Also, the menu looked really good online but we received the lunch menu which apparently was limited. The neighbors also (inappropriately) thought it cute to allow all their kids to run around the place. Had to ask the waiter his name... Sorry, really expected more out this experience.More

Visited here for oysters when in Brooklyn. The vibe was good but the food disappointing. The oysters were tiny and the fried calamari was not the best either.

Kind of far to get too. Location was deep in Red Hook. The vibe was beachy and fun. You don't feel like you're in NY. We sat upstairs out side on the deck. Atmosphere was cool. Food was a bit disappointing. Started off with wedge...salad, the lettuce was bitter, the alaskan crab was really ok. Corn was way over cooked. Not worth $50. The jalapeño corn bread was oily. Overall, it was expensive and the food is really not good. We won't go back and I wouldn't recommend. I'd say go for drinks and skip the food.More

The king crab roll was delicious with butter and the old bay seasoning in the slaw was a cool spicy delight. We sat on the top floor with great views of the Statue of Liberty. Great service and a busy fun place.
