Moorish restaurant in beautiful approachable dining room. Reasonablly priced "tapas" style plates. Incredibly good lamb! 5 star, Rockstar service. In a beautiful brooklyn neighborhood

La Vara is an homage to the Ladino cuisine and it couldn't have been paid better respect. All the dishes shine from the appetizers to the deserts. Flavors are spot on, service is efficient and friendly. Congrats to the chefs Alex and Eder for this true culinary experience!

Based on my experience, I am surprised this place has one Michelin star. Food was good, but nothing to blow your mind or even make you want to go back. Service - one of the knives was dirty, so we asked our waiter to replace it, he needed to be reminded again that we would need a knife. Okay, this... More

The place is on the cutest block in Brooklyn! My husband and I spent an amazing weekend in NYC and we loved this place! It is on the small side, we sat at the bar and ordered a pitcher of red sangria right off the bat! Came here for its Michelin Star and were not disappointed! Every from the ham... More

Possible to eat an affordable Mitchellin starred meal here if you choose wisely. Shared tapas dishes were very tasty. The service is good but informal and not what you may expect in Mitchellin dining. Try the specials I had the roasted cauliflower which was delicious. I am vegetarian and found a good choice. My partner ordered the pork and wasn't... More

How can devilled eggs be this good? HOW? This place is proof that deep-frying anything makes it exponentially more delicious. Deep-fried artichokes are literally the best thing that's happened to my mouth. Lamb tender enough to make you weep. A total waste of time to run through each of the dishes. Everything is ridiculous. Would marry La Vara if I... More

We took a group of 9 for dinner on a Monday night with a reservation for 8pm. The ambiance was warm with wooden floors and partial brick walls with pleasant, comfortable seating. We had a variety of 8 tapas dishes so that everyone could try everything. It was all quite good and everyone agreed the pork was outstanding. The drinks... More

This morning the first leg of my travel concluded before the time my alarm usually goes off. By the time I'd been up 14 hours, navigated 6 hours of air travel, got lost twice, and attended a wedding, I was ready for a spectacular meal and glass of wine. La Vara was a happy find in a neighbourhood I don't... More

I'm from NYC and yes, this is a must-try. The food is tasty and innovative, great staff, wine, environment, etc. We had an anniversary dinner there and it did not disappoint. They are small plates, we eat a lot and ordered a lot.

The location of this restaurant is nestled into the neighborhood and reservations are a must. It is shotgun style with a nice decor. However, it does feel a little more than just cozy. We opted to be seated outside. They have a back fenced in patio surrounding a pretty old tree; nice, except for the big black ants who attempt... More
