Nice atmosphere to catch up on your wifi and caffeine needs. We stopped here multiple mornings. I liked the oatmeal and the peanut butter banana smoothie. You order at the counter and you pick up drinks at the counter, or they bring hot food to your table.

Nothing really stands out about this establishment to me. The seating and decor are lackluster so if you want that warm cozy coffee shop feel it's not really the place for that. The food is alright. I do like their lattes, however. The staff are usually fairly unfriendly. It's nice that it's right by Forsyth Park, however.

A real gem! Sentient Bean is located directly across the street from the south end of beautiful Forsyth Park. There is a fair amount of seating and the shop seems to be frequented by a diverse cross section of folks from the surrounding community. There was a wide variety of vegan options on the menu. We went for breakfast and... More

Went around 4:00 pm, all 3 coffees were empty, had to get decaf. Place was dirty. Don't waste your time here.

My friend and I tried The Sentient Bean on Christmas morning. My coffee was good...my friend's was not. Both of our breakfast choices (breakfast burrito and chili) looked great but were extremely bland. The only partial saving grace for the burrito was the salsa. There was no hope for the chili.

I came here for vegan options. The coffee was incredible. Unfortunately, when I got there in the afternoon, the pastry selection was sadly lacking. The banana nut bread was not so great.

I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was amazing. also! if you drink coffee or tea, skip out on starbucks and come here! They have amazing Chai! I was pleased with the environment, which has majority of local people. The first night I went there they had a movie showing in the second half of the café. Following morning it... More

I love coffee shops surrounded by beautiful scenes and this spot is just that. From the coffee, artwork and ambiance, all the way up to the food, I was divinely impressed. More or less, treat yourself to a slice of banana bread and if you're feeling vegan-venturous try the vegan breakfast sandwich with vegan sausage.

Healthy food in the midst of scores of Southern fried food restaurants! Yay! I took a chance with letting the chef create 3 gluten free tacos for me, only asking that they don't use tofu. Yum! Tasty hummus and lots of fresh veggies! My husband's protein bowl was packed with beans, egg, avocado, spinach, seeds, etc. Coffee was hard to... More

Since the Bean (as it’s known in the neighborhood) opened its doors in 2001, we’ve tried to make decisions that are good for our customers, our community, and our environment. Strangely enough, we also believe that this way of doing business is good for the bottom line. Our fair-trade coffee is organic, as is our produce and most of our staple ingredients. We are committed to using locally grown ingredients as much as possible, don’t fry anything, and make most of our food from scratch. We are vegetarian, and very vegan and gluten-free friendly! In 2008 we got rid of disposable plastic ware and we continue to recycle and compost. We host almost nightly events organized by members of the community and we strive to be welcoming to even the strangest among us. Check out our website for upcoming events.
