This is the "real" southern experience with a great history. It is totally unique and totally worth it. However, the line to get in is long and slow ( ten people let in when a table of ten is open). You eat family style with the ten people next to you in line. When you are seated all of the... More

We actually arranged our departure from Savanah to be able to eat there on Monday since they are closed on weekends. Food is amazing, pleantiful, and you meet nice people while standing in line for over an hour. You need to get there by 10am to make it in with the first group, and they open at 11am. It was... Something for everyone - perfectly fried chicken, BBQ beef, pot roast, meatloaf - even a vegetarian could do well with the bowlfuls of side dishes (we counted around 18!). Get there early to secure a place in line and enjoy!

We were so hungary, but when we walked out we were so full we actually 'hurt' We had over 20 side dishes to go with the chicken, pork and beef stew. Family style. There is a waiting line, so go early to put your name in.

We knew we were going to be in for a long wait and had decided to go for it. After 2 1/2 hours, we finally got seated with people we had visited with during our wait. The service and hospitality inside is excellent. The southern dishes are tasty and plentiful...to the point where there is not enough room on your... More

2 hours standing in a line on a hot, sunny spring day. Far longer than I've ever waited for a table. At times wondering if it was worth it, wondering what else could we have been doing during our short stay in Savannah. But the smiles and comments from those lucky few who trickled out after their meal, kept us... More

The granddaughter of Mrs. Wilkes brought us fresh hot biscuits and taught us the proper southern way to eat them. Obviously, with pure cane syrup is the only way to eat them! Mrs Wiles is a southern homestyle family barbecue place set in a Victorian home. You are seated with strangers and served a feast of fixings with some of... More

I really did not think it would be worth the 2 1/2 hour wait to get in. I didn't think a family-style restaurant would have quality food. I didn't think it would really be worth $20. But I was wrong on all counts. You are warmly greeted once you get to the door. You are seated 10 to a table... More

Mrs Wilkes doesn't take reservations so there is generally a long wait to get in. Once you do get in you are seated "family style" at a big table for 10 with whoever happens to be in line when they make the count. Table is already laid with an immense spread of meats, vegetables, sides prepared in traditional southern style,... More

I cannot express just how good this food is. Many places cli to be the best spot for southern food. Not even close. The other reviews are correct, arrive early to beat the long line. But there is a line for a reason. The dining rooms are nothing fancy but still have a days past type of feel. The family... More
