Best ever Philly cheesesteak! To bad they don’t sell beer it would have been perfect. Now I am back home in TN and can only dream about it!

Of course we searched for places to get a cheese steak and all reviews led us here. The line was outside when we started but it moves quickly, and plenty of seating upstairs. We got ours with provolone as none of us are fans of...More

First visit. Tried a variety of sandwiches with family. Waited about 20 minutes in line. Line moves quickly. Customer recommended trying the Wiz cheese on sandwich. This was spot on. Best sandwich hands down was the pepper steak with Wiz. Sandwiches with American and provolone...More

Jims is within walking distance of Independence Hall. Located on South St. a pleasant short walk will take you there to 4th and South. The food is great, you can eat upstairs. The best Philly steak sandwich with onions or other choices as you wish....More

We headed to Jim’s for a Philly cheese steak as several people had recommended it as the best. There was a huge queue and it was raining so we went into Milk Boy across the road for a drink whilst we decided what to do....More

Cash Only! approx cost per sandwich - $10. Very good. We were told to try it with the Cheese Whiz and no other toppings. I liked it, next time will try Provolone, and perhaps onions, and peppers. Seating available upstairs. Great Place!! Must Try!!!

First of all, the staff at Jim’s were incredible. Very nice and informative. We were told by some locals not to go to the two touristy cheesesteak places to go to Jim’s. I ordered the Philly with cheese and mushrooms. It was good, but not...More

Locals working at our hotel recommended this cheesesteak place over others in town. It didn’t disappoint. My teenager and I went and loved it. Fun atmosphere! We got one provolone and one whiz to swap halves and try both. Both good but our personal favorite...More

Well for a week that we were in town we had Jim’s twice! It was that good. We would be walking around town and our mouth would water for some cheesesteak. If you are in town you need to stop by and have a cheesesteak...More

Just ok, nothing to blow up your mind. I cannot understand the amount of reviews on this “cheese steak Philly classic”. I would not repeat at all and encourage you to find a more genuine place less factorised and with a better service and quality....More

The Barnes is on the parkway about a 2.5 mile walk to us. I would grab a cab or Uber/Lyft.

We are a couple miles away on South St. toward the Delaware River. A thirty minute walk or a 8 minute cab ride.

Description
THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
