Three people recommended Jim's Steaks for my trip to Philly. It was a good cheese steak. I chose with whiz and onions. You can eat upstairs in the seating area after you get your sandwich. If I were here longer, I might go back and...More

I’ve had better at the mall food court. Onions and peppers were lacking. Where were they. What little there was added no flavor. You could have cheese whiz, which sounded unappealing or cheddar cheese sauce. Why aren’t they using real sliced cheese?More

Dear lifesjourneysm: In the interest of accuracy, we absolutely do use sliced cheese. In fact, we have two kinds -- sliced provolone and white American -- in addition to the Philly staple, Kraft brand Cheez Whiz. Curiously, your review mentions another "cheddar cheese sauce." (curious...More

This was our introduction with Philly, as we were coming from DC on I-95. Our friend advised us to eat there, as that's the place where Philly's started, and the best in town. At 10PM on a cold Jan night there weren't any crowds, so...More

Been to Jim's a couple times. Only steaks I've gotten in Philly but most Philly friends said it's better than Genos or Pats. Know what you want when you get to order because it's a rush. Tell them whiz, American or provolone, with or without...More

If you wanna say you went to the tourist traps, the head to Pat's or Geno's. If you want the best cheesesteak in Philly, head to Jim's. Friendly, efficient staff. Decent price and great chopped steak. Seating is tight, so be prepared to share a...More

The cheesesteaks were on point. Bring cash with you because cash talks with them. All the guys were nice and patience. The food is pricey, but very worth it. Seating upstairs makes you feel like you are going into a deeper lair of the subway.

The cheesesteaks were delicious and it just happened to be in the neighborhood. Right in the middle of the hip Queen Village, it gets kind of crowded. But the steaks are fantastic and the staff is really nice. No wonder why this is one of...More

The Barnes is on the parkway about a 2.5 mile walk to us. I would grab a cab or Uber/Lyft.

We are a couple miles away on South St. toward the Delaware River. A thirty minute walk or a 8 minute cab ride.

THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE! In the summer of 1976, my father and a business partner opened Jim's Steaks South St., Bringing a unique art-deco storefront and an even more distinctive cheesesteak to a neighborhood in the midst of a renaissance. Few would have predicted that over the course of nearly four decades the shop would become one of the most celebrated restaurants in Philadelphia. You'll find us on what's known as the "Hippest Street in Town," serving up the finest cheesesteaks and hoagies from the heart of the city that made them famous. Five-time winner of Philadelphia Magazine's "Best of Philly" award and Zagat rated, Jim's is your 'must-have' cheesesteak when only the BEST will do. With well over 200 years of cheesesteak-making knowhow, our staff will make you glad you stopped in each and every time you visit. Whether you're a Philly native or a conventioneer, touring the city's incredible history and museums or just passing through, you'll know you're getting the real Philly cheesesteak experience when you walk through our door. Ask anyone who has tasted our sandwiches! We can't wait to show you how it's done. Our best, Ken Silver Second Generation Proprietor Jim's Steaks South St.
