The best thing about American espresso culture now is its modesty. Coffee lovers here know the country is a child discovering the real thing. The guy behind the bar at Joe West Village detected my accent and said "You Aussies are hard to please". But please me they did!! GREAT espresso. A short black that sizzled on the tongue. And... Friendly neighborhood spot where we were welcomed as out of towners. Genial baristas and nice selection of pastries.

The servers aren't very friendly and the barista is pretty nervous, but for the rest this is simply a great coffee bar, nicely located in a quite street between Greenwich V and West V. You can sit outside and write or read the NY Times while sitting on one of the tables inside.

Finally a decent cup of coffee in New York. Well recommended, we just stumbled across this place when taking a walk around Greenwich. Try out the chocolate doughnuts too....

This is a charming little nook for coffee. It's a little too loud and crowded for reading, but the atmosphere is nice. I hope there's a bathroom I can use.

Whilst on a 12 day visit to our son in Manhattan NYC, my wife & I discovered this gem of a specialist coffee shop. It sold the best Flat White Coffees you'd normally expect to find in Australia or New Zealand. Although we didn't eat there the menu & food enjoyed by other customers looked really good. The Barristas were... More

A handful of times a year, I find myself in NYC for work, often near Grand Central Station. A few years ago, on a cold and dreary February afternoon, I discovered this mecca of coffee. Since then, I always find a way to squeeze in 1 or 2 trips per visit to NYC. On this occasion, I ordered a latte... More

Best coffee in NYC. Be prepared to wait for it though but it is definitely worth it. They don't do flat whites but asked for a cortado which is very similar.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
