Cheap litres of Sapporo, authentic Japanese izikaya snacks. Reminds me of a few places that I recently visited in Nara, Kyoto and Matsuyama. Very laid back place ($15 peperson minimum). Small place, great for a quiet nite with a good friend to talk business or chat for a few hours.

Tiny, authentic, hole in the wall izakaya - feels like being in Japan! I've been many times and it's some of the best ramen I've had in NYC. Small plates are also delicious. Has all of the typical Japanese beers and specializes in sake from Kyushu.

Everything on (and off) the menu is amazingly delicious. I personally particularly love the Hakata Cheese Steak, the Pork Meatball (off the menu special) the weds-thurs only Pork Katsu Sandwich, any time there is a sashimi special such as yellowtail, tuna, etc., the shrimp mentai gyoza, the kara age chicken. Service is lovely and very sweet. Location is small and... More

ROCKMEISHA Izakaya was our second stop for Ramen in NYC. My nephew and I took the No. 1 Subway Train from Times Square to the Village. It was snowing for the first time this year but we found it easily at 11 Barrow Street just off Sheridan Square. It’s a small space, just like a real Izakaya, with low ceilings... More

Interesting Japanese izakaya concentrating on food from kyushu. tonsoku (pork foot) was interesting. and ramen was small, but def solid. Bit expensive compared to other izakayas in the city.

Low-key, unpretentious gem serving up an all-embracing array of Japanese small plates.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
