I have been eating at this restaurant as a local for maybe 7 or 8 years and had never crossed my mind to do a review. I travel a lot and I know that how you are treated is almost as good as the food. and at Blaue Gans I have never had a bad meal nor a bad waiter.... More

My wife and I were in the City for some shopping. We parked in Tribeca and did an on-line search for nearby restaurants. Blaue Gans popped up and given that Austrian cuisine is unusual, we thought we would give it a try. The service was excellent and the Cod and Pork Schnitzel were excellent, each served piping hot with no... More

No oom pah pah band, but convivial and loud just the same. Vintage style posters decorate almost everywhere. Five of us a cozily seated in a large round booth. There’s a good selection of hearty food. Smoked trout crepes for the table, however, were light and delicate. Summer corn (in October) soup was creamy and delicious. Duck with spätzle, pan-sautéed... Went with two friends. Was mid week and was not full. Very simple decor but nice. The good service was immediately noticeable. The waiters were all over us VERY helpful but not pushy. Took Duck salad which is their top choice recommendation and Halibut for main course. The Salad was very large but very little duck... The fish on the... More

Went on recommendation of friends around 1:00 in afternoon. We were alone in the restaurant. Service was impeccable, ordered Bibb salad, red cabbage salad, both were superb. Then ordered trout and fried chicken. Both had their own unique tasty sides and cooked to perfection, served piping hot. Simply delish!

Definitely an Austrian menu. The seasonal white asparagus dish was outstanding as was the Reisling. The pork Jager schnitzel was enjoyable if slightly dry. The spatzle was enlivened with green peas. It's a simple space made interesting by total wall-covering with posters, some fitting the Austro-European theme. My healthy friends had the trout and enjoyed it. The kaiserschmarm dessert with... Some friends took me to this little Austrian-German spot in Tribeca and it caught me off guard in all the best ways. Generally I’m NOT a fan of German food, but was trying to be a “good guest.” However, this little place blew my mind! I ordered the beef goulash with a side of spätzle (basically a pseudo German mac... More

I think writers here are to generous by voting. Today we wanted to eat especially schnitzel and found this place at trip adviser and opentable. Lots of stars but what for? We had bratwurst for appetizer, ordinary sausage you can buy in every grocery, nothing special. My wife ordered wiener schnitzel (pork). It was okey. I ordered beef schnitzel which... More

We visited here with our Dutch friends and all of us were well pleased with the offerings of the Blaue Gans. Service was very good and the meal selection was quite varied. We each had something different and each meal was enjoyed. One could say it is a little pricey but it is New York. We will definitely return.

Staying in TriBeCa

Neighbourhood Profile
TriBeCa
What’s in a name? In this case it is the unique title of “Triangle Below Canal Street” that became a popular nickname in the 1970s. An attractive neighbourhood filled with handsome lofts on the edge of the Financial District, this lovely slice of Manhattan offers plenty of fine dining experiences and art galleries. Plus, it’s home to the city’s most exciting film event, the Tribeca Film Festival, that takes place here every year. TriBeCa is a great place to take a leisurely stroll before stopping into one of the many local restaurants or bars for a satisfying meal and cocktail. You’ll see families out for an afternoon walk, and don’t be surprised to come up with the occasional celebrity sighting. With such a great vibe, many of the city’s most famous residents call this neighbourhood home.
