While the sushi is terrific, the attitude of the staff more than compensates in the negative direction. If you sit at the sushi bar, you must order omakase. The reservationists try hard to force this alternative. While my wife and I love their sushi, we are more than a little reluctant to visit because of the close to hostile attitudes... More

I have eaten SUSHI frequently in Japan, my home country. It's almost a place and time to enjoy raw fish taste. It's first time to eat SUSHI in New York, and was wondering how I feel new taste SUSHI. But no doubt . Japanese also enjoy SUSHI here.

I admit the friends who suggested Gari for dinner hyped it unmercifully - "best Japanese in the city", "best Japanese in America", "best sushi ever". So perhaps I was overly hopeful. For anyone who's spent a lot of time in Japan, or lived there, it's a bit confusing. Instead of the omakase menu being a several-course dinner, starting with light... More

One of the best sushis in New York. Pricey but original and refined. If you are looking for "California roll" do not come here: here the sushi recipes are atypical and imaginative and taste fabulous. My advice: go for the Omakase tasting menu.

We were travelling for 2 months all around the United States and the experience at this restaurant was the worst we had. The food was good but the asian lady that served us (looked to be the owner) was horrible. She wanted us to eat as quickly as possible, when I was still eating the last piece of sushi from... More

Though the staff was very courteous, I spent $20 for two spicy tuna rolls and got a small volume of fish drowned in spicy mayo. It could have been any other seafood and I wouldn't have known the difference. They may do other things well (for $50 lunch specials I'd hope so), but this execution was abysmal.

We have been to this particular Gari Sushi multiple times. The quality is good. Fresh. BUT. BORING. Nothing changes. It is uninspired. Over the years, it has not brought anything new. It was fine. This is NYC. Step it up.

We come here whenever we can afford it for the omakase. It is about $100 for twelve pieces of sushi (or sushi/sashimi) but each piece is a work of imaginative culinary art. The restaurant is always full and most people spend much less money on tempura and other Japanese cuisine, all of which looks tempting as it goes by. But... More

A rather long line of sushi men work on the rolls in full view of the customers. That is a great show. And the food is spectacular. Truly Japanese, as is the service and staff. Very good value. Maybe a little noisy. Reservations necessary.

While we certainly enjoy putting on a sushi-crafting show, Gabriella, the real star of the show should be the sushi, so we're thrilled that everything tasted great. We'll be seeing you again soon! Kind regards, Gari of Columbus Team More
