This bistro is cozy, friendly, popular, noisy. I had to speak loudly to my companion who had trouble hearing through the noise. As we and the neighboring table were leaving, the man commented on what we were discussing at our table. I was lucky that they were Belgian and I did not say anything derogatory about Belgians. The mussels I... More

A treat to the eye as well as taste buds! Great ambience and most people having dinner there were French. The waitstaff (who also spoke impeccable French) was attentive and made good recommendations. The dishes were a work of art and the tuna and lamb we ordered were cooked to perfection and the recommended sides were a perfect complement to... More

We were museum hopping and our concierge recommended this restaurant. We are glad we had a reservation at this small restaurant with excellent French onion soup, tuna tartare, mussels with lemongrass (excellent), and highly rated (by our table) crab cakes. A Rhone red wine was excellent and complemented our meal perfectly. This is a great spot for lunch either before... More

Very sad to share that this French restaurant that was such a great discovery with a dear friend yeeeears ago this Dec 31st 2017 has treated me and other friends so badly. Just because we were paying the maximum gratuity with some coins, we were told by the owner or manager in a very loud voice: "Are you playing monopoly?... More

Not much to report here. A small salad and eggs benedict cost $94. What a bargain. That was Sunday Brunch. God forbid what a coq au vin and toast would add up to. Welcome to Paris in Manhatten.

After Frick museum visit, we went for lunch at Le Charlot. We were early so we had a table, but it filled up very quickly. Atmosphere is cozy, bistro French and loud. Seemed like a lot of customers were known by the waiters. I had the mussels marinieres with frites and hubbie the filet prepare. He liked his lunch but... More

Quick, friendly service. Comfortable. Really good food. We ate there for lunch. The three in our party each chose a different salad. Portion size was above average. Fresh ingredients. Well balanced texture and tastes. Not pricey. I would definitely go back for the mussels.

My wife and I stumbled upon Le Charlot while walking up Madison. The restaurant was starting to get busy and it looked like a known destination for the locals so we decided to have dinner there. We loved everything about Le Charlot, from the efficient service to the quality of the the food (the mussels were lovely and the French... More

This is a fun little restaurant on the upper east side. It's a great place for lunch or dinner and close to the Met and the Frick. The mussels are an absolute MUST - delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is fun and lively. This is always our first stop on every trip to NYC. During this trip we went twice... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
