We stumbled onto Jack Dempsey's after visiting the Empire State Building at night (great to see the city views at night!). The restaurant and pub are very close to the Empire State Building - just around the corner - so it is a wonderful location. We had a party of 7, ages 11-75 and EVERYONE loved it! Although it was... Some stuff was really good. Like my mashed potatoes were so good! But I got a sirloin and it was WAY over done. I asked for medium and it was well done. Dry and tough. The server never came back, didn't ask if we wanted anymore drinks or anything. I'm not impressed at all. It was not cheap and the... More

We ate at this restaurant in October 2016 and the food was excellent. I had shepherds pie and the person I was with had chicken pot pie. We both really enjoyed our meals. Portions were generous and reasonably priced. The wait staff was friendly and the wait was short. I would go back again if in the area.

We visited a number of times while in New York on holiday. Good atmosphere in a sports bar kind of way. Friendly bar staff - good cold beer. Food is usual pub fare the shepherds pie is good the fish and chips not so much. A bit of a home away from home sort of place.

This was a typical pub style restaurant with reasonable prices and good service. We recommend the fish and chips, the caesar salad and the shepherds pie.

We stopped off here for fish n chips and a few beers after a long walk on The High Line. A typical New York bar, friendly, good service, a good selection of beers, and tasty food. Loved it here over a TV watch of the Portland Timbers vs New York City football match. It does seem to be a sports... More

It was rainy and wanted a hot soup and sandwich! Dempsey's did not disappoint. Had a lentil bacon soup and quesadilla. Hubby had soup and pulled pork sandwich. Great food server was very attentive and personable! Would go back anytime.

Shopping in NY, we stumbled on this place when walking around. Very nice, cozy pub looking place with a full bar, nice beer selection. Also a few wine selections. The was a soccer game on all the TV's which everyone in the place seemed to be watching. We order sandwiches - I had the grilled chicken wrap and the Hubs... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
