Artisanal is close to my office and is one of my go-to lunch spots. They do great, traditional French classics: onion soups, steaks frites and croque monsieur - all of which come in European sized portions rather than gut-busting American over-catering. Their omelettes and quiches are great, as are their salads and burgers. Great wine selection (albeit pricey) and one... More

We had dinner here on our last evening in New York. Having visited the city regularly over the last three years and eaten out extensively, we would say that this place ranks up there with the best in midtown. A genuinely French atmosphere, very good food, super service and a sommelier who really knows his stuff and does not push... More

Everything we ate at this lovely restaurant was top-notch. From the Artisanal fondue to the filet mignon, to the cappuccino at the end of our meal, it was a delight. They are moving across the street and onto Park Avenue in the next couple of months. We will definitely return on our next visit to New York and hope that... More

This was our choice for a celebration dinner for 3. The ambience is laid back but elegant. The fromagiere advised us on our appetizer cheese plate, encouraging us to try a variety of cheeses and meats that blended well. The filet mignon with truffle potatoes was excellent, as were the lobster and the mussels. We were delighted with the food... More

The minute you enter the doors of Artisanal, the ambience is captivating. The service is unique and seems tailored to the needs of its clientele. Whether you're meeting a friend for happy hour or someone for a business dinner, this is the place to go. Everyone from the sommelier, the hostess and waiters go out of their way to suggest... More

When we arrived, we asked the hostess to take a picture of us and she did so expertly and took several shots. We we told the waiter that we were ordering wine, he immediately called the sommelier over; the sommelier was very thoughtful, a good listener, and helped us pick a delicious Portuguese wine. When we ordered a cheese plate,... More

My husband and I recently took some friends here because we remember really enjoying our experience here several years ago (at least 5 years ago). Things have changed. Don't get me wrong--the cheese is still good but we used to be able to order a plate of different cheeses for a reasonable price: now its $9 for per (tiny) cheese... More

My kids were dying to try fondue so we decided to come to Artisanal. My husband and I had come here 10 years ago and the fondue was so delicious back then that we would always compare other fondue places to this restaurant. Wow... what a complete disappointment. I think my kids now think fondue is disgusting. As soon as... More

It's hard to review a place where you had a distinctly black&white experience. If certain aspects are a 5, and others are a 1, what's the grade? well, I gave it a 3 (mathematical solution). The good: The selection of cheeses is extraordinary. My friend accompanying me was not only French, but a real connoisseur, and he was astonished with... More

We arrived here late morning on a Saturday for brunch. They have an unlimited mimosa/bloody mary/beer deal for brunch for $20! The French bread was amazing. I can't even describe the sheer amount of cheese. Just order anything with cheese. Then get a cheese course! The cheese monger was very helpful in picking out cheeses for our taste.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
