Two of us had the lunch soup special--soup and salad, a drink (glass of house wine, coffee or soft drink) and choice of flan or chocolate mousse for dessert. We both had the onion soup and it was outstanding--great onion broth, nice bread, and delicious broiled Gruyere on top, very slightly charred. Truly wonderful. Unfortunately the salad was very ordinary... More

I recently had lunch at La Bonne Soupe with a friend and even though I had previously read some good reviews, I was greatly impressed. The space is nice and ample, plenty of tables spread throughout two levels. We sat upstairs, which seemed slightly less busy. I had the French onion soup, which was rich and delicious. Service was very... More

An old favorite, still popular and still good. The bistro menu doesn't change much but that's ok. The French onion soup, burgers, steak frites and chocolate mousse are reliably delicious. Good house wines and extremely professional service. A Votre Sante!

Went here for lunch before going to the theater. The French Onion Soup is authentic and delicious. Accompany that with the wonderful bread, salad, and some wine and you'll be in heaven. We will definitely go here each time we're in NYC for a true bistro experience!

My family and some relatives met here for a surprise birthday party for my wife on a Friday night. I called a couple of weeks ahead and made a reservation for 13 people at 7:00 pm - I called a week before to confirm the reservation and spoke to the owner (Monsieur Picot). He was very friendly and accommodating; he... More

We discovered this restaurant 6 years ago and since then we always go there again and again for lunch and/or dinner. Being Swiss citizens we wanted to try the Cheese Fondue. This was a very funny experience and we have to admit: it was very good! But not only this "exotic" meal is to be recommended. From Burgers, over good... More

Nice cozy place to go for French fare. Prices are in line with other NYC restaurants. For $24 you get a nice salad, French onion soup, glass of wine and dessert. French bread is also put on the table. Good deal! Can get crowded but worth the visit.

We chose this cute French restaurant to for our daughters surprise meeting for her 18th bday. The manager also played along with the surprise! The cod I had was very well prepared. The service was friendly and efficient. Overall a great meal

We have been visiting La Bonnie Soupe for almost 20 years now. It's simple but elegant, classic but not stuffy, affordable but not cheap. We have never been disappointed. It's like visiting old friends. The onion soup is always savory, hot, crusty with gobs of melted cheese. We dined here on New Year's Eve with another couple and had a... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
