The food at Quintessence is delicious. It has flavour it has style. Its even very good for you. We get the cause. No nasties anywhere. We get the community. We appreciate the links this restaurant has to its community BUT we are still paying for food and service. The night we visited the reaturant was quiet. J ust 5 tables... More

The day was cold and rainy, and we were on a little bit of a time crunch. This small café was absolutely the proper answer, with an incredible variety of foods available and drinks to serve the delight of anyone! The staff was so attentive, and was able to help us incredibly on our time crunch. The soups and veggie... More

I always want to like raw food more than I end up liking it. To be fair, I went here a few years ago with my sister (whose vegan) when we had a Groupon, so maybe it's changed since then. We had such a poor tasting meal, we literally had to walk down the block and grab more food after... More

The food here is good, very tasty vegan with a nice variety and gluten free options. I felt it was maybe a bit pricy. The service was spotless and I would definitely go back. A place great to expand on some ideas of things you can do at home. Very original. Try the ravioli if you go there I would... More

Nice raw vegan spot! A bit pricey but everything we have tried has been good and everyone I have brought there has liked it. Surprisingly not busy and easy to get a table on the weekend for brunch. Their cashew spread that is in a lot of their dishes is really good and so are their hot drinks. Ginger with... More

The lady serving me was extremely helpful (she didn't rush me at all) and informed me of what dishes she could have for me in five minutes or less. I ended up having the 'All American Burger with BBQ Sauce' which is described in the menu as 'two veggie burger patties sandwiched with shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, our homemade pickles,... We stop at Quintessence at least once during our stays in New York and have never been disappointed. In fact, it reminds us just how good vegetarian food can be! The green soup (raw made with kale, cucumber, celery and lemon juice and avocado) is so light and tasty; the butternut squash is cooked and is a creamy blend of... More

The cream 'cheese' and tomato bagel was delicious. The avocado florentine was also quite nice. Probably wouldn't order the cashew cappuccino again (and I do like cashew cappuccinos) but that was the only thing that wasn't perfect. Our waitress was very efficient and graciously answered all of our questions. All in all it was a lovely experience

I went here to have brunch with a friend, we had the most delicious and healthy meal, staff is really nice and make sure you understand everything about the plates they serve. AMAZING, definitely coming back

My daughter wanted to celebrate her "veganniversary" and after much research this is the place she chose. It's a quaint establishment with a vast menu of options. We had a hard time choosing so we ordered several small plates: taco, enchilada, romaine burrito, Burdock Miso Quinoa Pilaf, Peter's Pot (Tomato) soup, flax crackers and our dessert choices were pecan pie... Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
