Small coffee and pastry shop on Amsterdam Ave. They serve wonderful pastries we remember from our childhood growing up in Prague. If you are visiting the St. John Divine Cathedral this small place is just across the street on the corner of the Cathedral Parkway....More

Hust visited St John the Divine Cathedral. Stopped in here for a desert, tea and coffee. Very good. Had the cookies. Service is friendly. Price is right.

We picked up two hamentoshen after visiting the cathedral across the street. They were way huge but tasty. Apricot was good. Walnut, an unusual flavor, was delicious. Place seems packed all the time.

I have many happy memories of coffee and strudel at the HPS from my wife's days when she was a student at Barnard and Columbia. Now, with my daughter a student at Barnard, as well, it was great to return. The coffee is still very...More

The Hungarian Pastry shop is small but worth a visit for quiet respite and a sugar hit. My friend and I enjoyed a delicious coffee and breakfast there. The café itself is quite small, so be prepared to wait a little, or arrive early and...More

This place saved us from a huge thunderstorm! It has a very very nice selection of pastries -- all which look original and fresh -- and coffee, etc. However, the place is pretty small so the tables are tiny and you feel like you are...More

There's usually a lot going on at the Hungarian pastry Shop. It's frequented by Columbia students/ researchers/ professors, and sometimes tourists/ visitors from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and I suspect also the staff of the nearby hospital. Here's my disclaimer: I used...More

When I was there I did not see any signs saying that certain pastries were gluten free...that's not to say they don't have it. I'd go and just ask them. Have fun !!
