I hate lines. I never wait in lines. But I did for Levain Bakery. And I don't regret it. Even frozen cookies from here, eaten weeks later were worth it.

Stopped because of the reputation on the way to the Apollo. Worth the trip for sure! Incredible cookies! Thick, gooey, incredible chocolate chip and walnut.

The place is very small, but the cook is very good. It is not cheap for a cookie. You can see staff preparing the dough, what is interesting.

My wife and I sought out Levain Bakery based on the TripAdvisor reviews. We agreed that the short subway diversion we made to get there was well worth it. Yes, the cookies are expensive but as the saying goes, "you pay for what you get"....More

This place is just right by my apartment. I have to stop myself to go in everyday and buy a cookie. The BEST!

Went to levain bakery on a Sunday morning around 10am...the line was about 30 feet long when I arrived. Minutes later it had tripled...half the block almost. In fact I only had to wait 20min to get inside. I still can’t make up my mind...More

People used to line up by the dozens to get into their small basement store. The cookies were worth the wait. Happily for the masses, Levain has opened another larger store just a few blocks away so you can save yourself the ten to twenty...More

Simply the best!! A little crispy on the outside and a satisfyingly thick and gooey center. My personal fave is the chocolate chocolate chip. They are great for sharing! Be prepared to wait on line but the wait is worth it.

Easily some of the most delicious cookies I've ever eaten. They are BIG, so split them with someone, or save some for later. And don't just stick with Chocolate Chip! The Chocolate Peanut butter is also to die for. :)

This bakery makes the best cookies ever. Seriously life changing. If you see a line out the door, get in it. It moves pretty quick and is so worth it!!

Description
Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.
