I came to New York for my best friend's wedding and I was pleased to learn that we were going to Sylvia's afterward. I hadn't been in years, but the food was just as amazing as I remember. Our service left a bit to be desired, but I also know that's a potential problem with a group of 10+. Otherwise,... More

We went to Silvia's last nite after an exhausting NYC day. Good food and good welcome although since the recommendations in trip advisor and in the guide i'd have expected "a bit more"

Thank you for the candid feedback, Carine. While we're glad you enjoyed things, it's disappointing to know we couldn't quite exceed expectations. Here's hoping we'll get another chance soon -- we know we can show you that full five-star experience! All the best, Sylvia's More

Another visit uptown and we decided to stop by Sylvias for some soul food ... I ordered the Bar B Q ribs, Mac and cheese and collards.. Unfortunately I forgot that I don't like Sylvias Mac and cheese. It's cheesy but lacks that uumph that I like in Mac and cheese and actually was a little bland. The pork ribs... More

We're glad to know a good time was had by all, but it sounds like you didn't get our absolute best, which is disappointing -- our pork ribs are usually fall-off-the-bone, so that was surprising to see. Nonetheless, we're glad you enjoyed the visit. Hope you can make it back to see us again soon! All the best, Sylvia's More

Worth the trip to Harlem. Modernized old-style restaurant with all the southern comfort foods. Excellent ribs, potato salad, mac and cheese, catfish. OK friend chicken.

Right up front, let me tell you to go to Sylvia's during the week. Weekends are manic. We went early one morning and basically had the place to ourselves. The atmosphere is definitely dated but that's the charm. The food is yum, the staff are lovely and you can even buy products and cookbooks to relive the experience at home.... More

I was very keen to try soul food and now I'm hooked. The staff were all excellent even though it was busy. The food came out really quickly. I order the fried chicken with collared greens and macaroni and cheese with gravy on the side. The chicken was crispy and juicy. The collared greens were delicious as was the macaroni... More

After 24 hours traveling from Australia and checking into our Harlem accommodation this was the perfect comfort good to enjoy. I had high hopes as I'd read lots of reviews and I wasn't disappointed. Neither were my family. The service was good and we were soon seated without a reservation. We all had the fried chicken - two with the... More

Sylvia, from SC, learned to cook southern style and brought it to NYC. Thank you Sylvia! This little place is fantastic for good 'old southern food! Fried chicken, greens with vinegar, cornbread, you name it! Thank you for bring a piece of the south to the big apple!

While exploring Harlem I stopped in for lunch at Sylvia's Restaurant. A very friendly and inviting atmosphere. As I was alone that day I took a stool at the counter which was great as I could observe the hostess greeting people at the door and wait staff interacting with customers. The waitress that looked after me was very friendly and... More
