My husband & I were on the guest list of a table regular-(35 years) this week. So much hype about the place, makes it more intriguing! It's a rather small, unpretentious restaurant on a corner in East Harlem-where it's been since 1896! We arrived too early-no traffic on a rainy weeknight & entered as the staff was setting up. We... Raos is more than about dining, although the food is excellent. The feeling is contagious. Everyone is having a great time. We have been several times in the past few years and have never been disappointed. The meatballs are a must! The family style servings are generous, everything is delicious! Frank always made all feel at home, so much personality,so... More

My wife and I have been going to Rao's for over 35 years. Back then, you could actually call and get a reservation. That changed when the joint became incredibly popular, and deservedly so. As far as the food goes - everything is great! We are looking forward to many more years of reservations.

The place you've always read and heard about- and it delivers! Very good "red sauce"- style, Italian restaurant. Food served family style and in epic portions. As good as the food is, the people watching, singing and instant camaraderie with other diners/regular customers is even better. A very unique and most pleasant dining experience. Very pleased I finally got there.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn N.Y for 35yrs. A friend of mine frequents Rao's often he invited me as a guest to join him one evening. Knowing NY as I do I never thought an establishment like this could exist in Harlem, from the outside it looks pretty simple but once you're in, you're in (so to speak).... More

An experience not to be missed. Great food with copious helpings served family style. But this is more for the experience. We were running late due to traffic and called to let them know. The response was, "no problem, the table is your for the night." Upon entering, we were greeted like we were regulars. Once inside, it was a... More

I was lucky enough to visit one evening and happen to drop the right name, instantly I had a table for two and a dinner I will never forget. What a great place and a great family atmosphere of people that care for each other. I can't wait till I can go back.

Hardest tale to get in the country but great experience if you get the opportunity to go. Old school traditional Italian food served y friendly staff that treat you like family. Customers are all regulars and know each other. Longtime restaurant staff and management are like a institution and know everyone by name and often personally. Everything is good but... More

Rao's is a very small Italian restaurant in an out of the way place in Manhattan. To get a table here may prove to be difficult but it is not impossible. Most tables have long standing reservations for the entire year. One way to get a table is to buy a reservation thru a charity auction where someone donates their... More
